eight years in theory, a newby in practice!!!
While we were sitting sipping a coffee outside Costa Coffee at Moele Brace in Shrewsbury today a van drove past us with the words DVLA Road Tax Avoidance Vehicle written on the the side and back. It proceeded to run up and down the alleys at a fast walking pace between parked cars in the huge car park. It stopped twice for more than 5 minutes without actually parking so all I can assume is that they had found an offending vehicle or two.
First time I'd seen such a thing. Can't be a bad thing (y)

We need that vehicle to visit Durham. Our whole county has its fair share of untaxed/MOT'd vehicles.

Often in Folkestone, they even clamp Lorries.
Often operate throughout the night.

They will also clamp your car where it is. Still there two days later?
It is towed to a holding compound for 7 days then crushed. You can retrieve it from the compound after paying all back tax plus up to ten times the debt. Valid MOT and insurance policy must be shown. Had several round here towed. Good job.

Amazes me police have time for revenue gathering
Look beyond revenue gathering. Many people who drive untaxed cars have no MOT and their vehicle may well be dangerous, you cannot tax a car that doesn't have an MOT. Naturally there will be people who have very limited income who cannot afford to tax a vehicle but there will be many in the criminal classes who drive untaxed uninsured cars and change them frequently. Police checks on Tax/insurance /MOT often reveals criminal activity far more serious in nature. Also unless you have good insurance the consequences of being in a no fault accident wit an uninsured driver will be a real PIA.
