has anyone used been on the calmac ferries since the introduction of the RET ?

any cheaper for trips to the scottish islands ?

Yes, and they are now great value!! You can also reduce your costs even more, by selecting your routes carefully. The Calmac website gives all the various costs.

yes massively down on previous years, but still not what you might call cheap compared to Dover / France

also don't presume fuel will be cheaper on the mainland, that has a tax reduction as well on the islands, virtually no difference

The road equivalent tarrif has been running for a few years now, firstly as a trial and now been extented.

Ferries to the Western Isles are now at their best value for a long time.

i believe that its only been in trial and goes live this wednesday on all remaining routes.
anyone tried the hopscotch tickets ?

Study the ticket prices for your itinerary as they may not be suitable and single tickets between each port could be cheaper in the long run.

Strange, they don't seem to know when it starts.

John i think that is when it started ie october 2015.

It was on the news here, not so long ago, saying that it was encouraging tourism and improved populations to the islands.

It's an initiative by Calmac and the Scottish government to reduce ferry prices to match what you would have paid if you travelled the same mileage by road. It's reduced ferry fares to the islands by at least 50% and makes island hopping around the Hebrides much cheaper.
