We want a good quality easy to read easy drive in a motorhome atlas of Great Britain - I read horror stories about Sat Nav Sal taking you down unsuitable dirt tracks and scary precipices!! What’s your favourite please?
many thanks J&S

Have you got a good map-reader, other than the driver. Mine is hopeless - surprising really since she was a Boy Scout, (all called that in Poland, even before the transgender fad).

I personally do not buy a road atlas only as I like to have topographical features and other information for exploring where we stop, so I go for Michelin, largest scale I can find. They are expensive but full of information. We get more from the areas we visit. I assume they do GB.

Probably from drivers who use car mapping, or Google maps on their Sat Nav devices, rather than specific mapping for larger vehicles.

I too like the Philips spiral bound Road Atlas, but not used one for years, as my Truck Sat Nav never puts a foot wrong, and as mentioned above, if I don't like or trust the direction offered by the Sat Nav, I'll find another.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I use a Collins cheap £4 road atlas of GB, sad to see it does not cover NI, or the south….

I also use road signs, I find they are pretty useful

AA 2023 Big Easy Read but not the spiral version because the missus finds it hard to control on her knee when we are moving along at a pace. I like it because it maps the minor roads as to whether they are 4m wide or more or less than 4m. I won't go down anything under 4m unless there is no option. This atlas sells quickly and it has a tendency to run out. You also need to ensure you have the version with the 4m -+ roads.

I've bought these over the years when I change atlas every 3 years.

It will never take you down unsuitable dirt tracks if you use your common sense and the MK 1 eyeball . Just look before you turn it will always find another route.
But as above - spiral bound Phillips
I spend endless time looking when the satnav directs and saying Nope, Nope, Nope

Sending you down a reasonably good road in town but not knowing cars parked both sides etc 😀

Suggest you go to Halford or wh smiths and have a look at different atlas as you may prefer one to another could be the print colouring size or even the feel of the pages
Sounds daft but some people find some maps easier than others 🤔

Thanks everyone - I’ve had a good look and I’m going to pre-order this as I don’t want it sold out - available 1st June

Big Easy Read Britain 2024 Spiral (A3 Atlas) (AA Road Atlas) (UK Road Atlases) (AA Road Atlas Britain)

It’s Steve who wants the atlas - I feel a domestic coming on!!

I must admit I am a maps man, a throwback to my rallying days. I love the way an OS map can tell the story of an area with the symbols for pubs, churches, telephone boxes etc. The Philips is a good quality map book but do not be tempted by cheap knockdown versions of any map book as the printing on some of the pages is awful. If you travel at night get me of the navigators Pottis. Just the job.

Many of these horror stories result from getting a digit - or 2 - wrong when setting the satnav for your intended destination. I speak from experience.

When I have entered a route on a satnav I zoom-in on the destination to make sure it is taking me where I want to go.
