A-Class Fiat
Just wondering if anyone has experience of these speed warning devices?

I’ve just bought one to address two shortcomings in the Fiat:
A) my inability to read the instrument panel in most lighting conditions;
B) to know what the local limit is when navigating with Android Auto (Google Maps).

May need to remove it when in France, because of the laser detector.

So far, it seems to work well and provides a clear display, but it uses Here data and I already know that Here is rarely up to date.

I would not like to trust it for speed limits, they change so often, most often in the same stretch of road, (40mph,
30 mph, 20 mph, 30 mph) Got caught once doing 24 mph in a 30 mph which is what I thought the speed limit was.

To see the dash ever thought about getting an eye test? I had exactly the same issue in our fiat van. Told the optician I want reading lenses in the bottom half. Did an eye test and she said I also need a prescription in the top half and I thought my long distance vision was great. They have made a real difference to clarity.

I was bothered that it might be my eyesight but needed only a slight change for near vision and spent extra for Zeiss DriveSafe varifocals. Other cars are fine, I just cannot read the speedo on my Fiat Ducato. Whoever thought red on black was a good contrast was wrong. They ought to be illegal.

A bit messy but how about some 50, 70, 90, 100,110,130kph stickers (dots) stuck onto the mph equivalent on the speedo face?

I need to brighten the needle as well as the digits.

There is one good thing about the Fiat over my other cars: You can reset the speed limiter to work in kph when abroad. The others are fixed at mph. Shame that the limiter doesn't work very well, though!

Have you checked with Fiat, I remember seeing something about an upgrade?

Also, if you can read the mph it's simply a matter of taking the first number of the kph limit and multiplying it by 6 to get a rough mph figure (e.g. 80 kph would be 8 times 6 = 48mph)

The replacement dials from Lookwood the kmh is in white a bit better but still not that good, I put kmh dial back in my van much clearer.

Upgrade is not worth getting excited about. Only marginally better, sometimes. I suggested they repeat the speed in the central display but that's fallen on deaf ears.

The bonus of being able to work in the right units with a speed limiter is that the limits are in multiples of 10 and it will jump to those values. Shifting to an intermediate value requires dexterity and distraction.

I have one and very pleased with it. Surprisingly the Volvo speedo only reads 1mph more at 70. I can see the dashboard very clearly by the way....... it acts as a secondary warning. A great improvement over the gem model.

Don’t rely on great customer service from Road Angel though. They don’t reply to emails and I had to phone them for a minor trouble shoot issue.

That sounds promising. Shame that support is wanting. I'd expect better from a service for which there is an annual subscription.

They are ok if you phone them. At least that is what I had found

Not quite so, the Mercedes Sprinter (906) has a digital display for KPM as well as an easily read analogue speedometer.

Nothing wrong with red on black.... Ever considered you may have a colour blindness.
It's not always as obvious as confusing two colours.

Yes, but the speed limiter and cruise control, if you have them, have factory-set units.

I'm unaware of any colour blindness but have noticed an increasing use of grey on white, rather than black. Combine that with small print and it's more difficult to read. Is this done to save ink, I wonder? Or perhaps the World simply has it in for me? :(

Classic 'User Interface' schoolboy error. A surprisingly large percentage of people see red letters on black background as totally black.
