Our dog Yuki can remember well the loving hugs he had off Tara, a sight that still makes me smile, as Black on White what a sight they made play fighting :giggle:
RIP TARA and huge condolences to you Paul and Nikki.

We feel your pain and dread the day when we have to do the deed for our two boys however in the past we have had to do the right thing for previous companions and it gets no easier but take our memories of them and cherish them every day. ????

So sorry to hear such sad news.

I always remember when Alf the little cocker spaniel decided to shout at her. The look of pure disdain on Tara's face was hilarious.

Lots of lovely memories for you to keep, I am sure xx

Thankyou everyone for your kind words.

I have to say I'm completely broken right now..i just don't know where to turn or what to do...

Im sure many will say "it's just a dog deal with it" but i can't..

I can't think straight i can't go to work, I've never had a feeling like this in my life ever..

Had our hearts torn apart by each of our wonderful dogs when they died. So much so that now we won't have another. The following poem is one that gave us some comfort. We hope it helps you, haganap. Our thoughts are with you.

IF IT SHOULD BE
If it be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should wake me from my sleep.
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle just can't be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love and friendship stand the test.

We've had so many happy years
What is to come will hold no fears.
I know you'd not want me to suffer, so
When the time comes - please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend
Only please stay with me till the end.
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes, they no longer see.

I know in time you too will see
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail, it's last has waved
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Do not grieve that it should be you
Who has to decide this thing to do.
We've been so close - we two these years
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

I love you now and forevermore
Your friend, companion and so much more.

So very sorry for your loss. I know the pain you are feeling. The emptiness. I saw this the other day. I hope you know the story of the rainbow bridge. It helps me to think of my lost dogs playing over the rainbow bridge and waiting for this day......of courseI’ll be smothered. You will be squished.

Know where you are Paul, you have lost a loved member of your family.
The old cliche "Time will heal" is true but you never forget the ones that have passed or the love and happiness they gave.

On and off for many years.
I am so sorry.

It is almost 30 years since my last dog went on the only journey we could not share........ I still miss her and still smile at the love and laughter she gave me.

I won't have another dog as Martin is allergic and I have to let my head rule about the practicalities of dog ownership - even though I really really really want another dog - so long as she is exactly the same as the dog I lost ....... or a Springer / Irish Setter cross.

DavidG58 I still get the nudges and the weight of the big dog that thought I wouldn't notice her on my knee even now - and especially when I need some stability.

Really sorry, dogs become such a massive part of our life when you have one, to lose your friend is such a bummer, I feel for you both, been through it a few times, horrible, no consolation now but as they say, time is a great healer ?

Oh no. :(. Paul, I wasn't on the forum earlier in the year, in hospital. Just read this, thankfully resurected, thread.

You know how I felt about Tara... I am now so sad and can only imagine what you are both going through.

Lovely, laid back, fun loving Tara.. RIP sweetheart.

More than toes wet now!
Im sure many will say "it's just a dog deal with it" but i can't..
They just don't understand. It's not just a dog.
You have had 11 years of joy, comfort, happiness, companionship, ...............................................
Don't feel sorry for yourself feel sad for those that haven't had all of the above.
Think also that she had the same 11 years of joy, comfort, happiness, companionship, ...............................................
In time the pain will fade a little but the memories never will.
Take care.
