Thought we would have. few days away in Dorset, last week we went down to West Bay and had a wonderful 3 nights at a reasonable price....... just looked for next week...... 3 nights £192 at west Bay and £123 at Freshwater beach !!!!!!! how do these poor parents cope with such extortionist, I find that an offensive price and won't now go, but, could afford if I wasn't so tight......... no way could we have done that back when the kids were young........ hope they don't get any bookings and they go bust.

The Caravan Club seem not to raise their prices huge amounts for the school holidays.

This is the price list for Freshwater East in South Wales.

They are a seasonal business.
They charge what the market will bare.
Remember, many sites have made very little money over the last 18 months.

If you don't like paying the market rate by a beach in Dorset , then go elsewhere, a few miles inland is cheaper, a few hundred miles north, in a field with no facilities is cheaper still, or you could just stay in a layby on the side of an 'A' road for free.

Yer pays yer money and yer takes yer choice!

Its always been that way and I don’t suppose it will ever change.
Parents and Grandparents are effectively held to ransom during the summer holiday period.
Its also when holiday companies balance their books and move from ‘break even‘ to profit
Personally, I find loads of stuff to do on the MH during July and August and then head out again in September

I dont know why the retired would want to go away in the summer holidays, unless taking Grandchildren away! Its always been dearer, busier, noisier. Had no choice when kids were young,
I avoid it like the plague now!

Not a problem on CLs or CCs or adult only sites , easy to avoid the varmints if you want :giggle:

O.K. take the point of the majority that they are prepared to be 'ripped-off.' Unfortunately this is my first year that we have not been over in France / Spain where they actually pay less during school holidays so that all kids can have a break, must admit they have a longer 'holiday period' but I do expect that the ones who have been ripping off our Government on furlough are now ripping off the general public.

The timings may not sync with your plans, but in June the C&CC run a Temporary Holiday Site for about a month in each of the months of June - we attended for a few days - and in August.
Obviously for members only but the location is literally next door to Freshwater. Strictly for self-sufficient units as only fresh water and toilet emptying provided.
£11 per night.

Sciac...... thanks for that, to be honest it doesn't really affect us, I just get cross when the younger generation are trying to give their kids a good round life style and they get ripped off. I will now wait and if all is well we will go to Spain in October, but, we do need to ensure that all kids get a bit of time on a beach / seaside

You think they pay less on sites in France and Spain in July and August!
Have a look at the prices you would pay for a beach side site in July and August.
BTW I remember when I could buy a pint for the equivalent of 6p, times and wages and prices move on.

I was watching the Sweeny pilot episode 1974 , Regan and carter ordered 2 double whisky's

74p :D

I can remember 1/3 d for a pint

We do enjoy taking the G/ kids away, however, do enjoy listening to kids playing and having fun ( there is a limit when someone else's)

 I'm the complete opposite - if there were more adult only campsites I would frequent then as much as possible!

1 shilling=5p

I can trump that, 1s1 &1/2d for a pint of Yorkshire Clubs Brewery mild in the Worky's club
Blimey, you must be old !

I actually remember being about 7 years old and the maths teacher saying we no longer need to learn how to add up in pounds, shillings and pence!
I can still do it, in my head, but my younger brother (he's over 60 now and got his OAP bus pass) has not got a clue, as it was before his time.

I feel old but my head isn't, I was 16 then, 1965 so not that old.
