Thinking of staying at Townsend Farm camp site for the airshow this year, has anyone stayed there or is there anywhere better?
i am particularly interested in ground to air photography so the sun position is important.
EHU is not an issue but showers are a must.

cheers

I would love to go to RIAT but have a dog and understandably they`re not allowed in the show.
Would Townsend Farm be a good place to watch the show flying displays from without going in the show ground ?
Or is there anywhere else to see the action ?

We stayed on the gloucestershire branch of C&MC rally field last year. Good views and no need to buy tickets to show itself. Rally open Wed to Tues so you see arrivals on wed, practice on thurs and show days fri, sat, sun. One day was wet last year so it's nice to have the other days.
Walkable to the end of the runway to see aircraft on approach runs just for a viewpoint change.
Just phone pics,
No showers though, just fresh water and slit trench for cassette!

If you are on any camping field, you can listen to the on-site commentary on the radio broadcast so i took a small portable with me.

Otter Spotter We’ve stayed here for RIAT a couple of times. Has limited showers. Is in open fields but a little further away from the show. Caravanning and Camping Club membership required to attend this rally.
We observed the aircraft from the rally field. Others visited RIAT itself in their motorhomes.

From your experience, what’s the latest day it’s viable to arrive to stay at that site? I don’t think we could get there before the Friday evening or Saturday morning, but no point if already full by the Thursday or Friday afternoon. Thanks for any pointers!

We arrived on the Friday evening last year, they only take so many bookings so places guaranteed

As said above, you have to book in advance, bookings started in January.
ifyou did come, Friday eveing preferable due to heavy traffic for the show in the morning but I'm not sure of latest time for arrivals.
