As I said you can buy the currency when the rate is good may not save a vast amount but it all helps when you are living off pensions.

I purchased something with my Revolut card and when it came it wasn’t as advertised and thr seller only wanted to part refund me.
Did a dispute on the Revolut app and they were straight on it, refund in a few days.

I have quite a few bank accounts - never been advised by any of them about the 159 fraud hotline
Same here Stephen. :(

For those of us that didn’t watch it thanks for putting this information forward and in perspective.
Ditto here, especially for the iPlayer link. (y)

I am not a Revolut customer, but could quite easily have been, had our Metro accounts not served our cash needs abroad, and our NW Credit Card serving our purchasing needs.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Well I think if I’m rang and said transfer my money, I would be suspicious, but she did get her money back.
I will continue using my Revolut but I only have a couple of hundred it at any time.
Agree with they were stupid however the main take for me, and the program, was the absolute lack of support from the institution including no fraud helpline, not signatories to the new voluntary refund mechanism, etc.

Don't understand the negativity towards REVOLUT. We always read the T&C. We never exceed the 1000 limit. We never exchange at weekends. We always research the foreign banks that don't charge at ATMS, We never withdraw more than 200e from an atm. We watch the exchange rate regularly and recently got 1.1965. It works well for us but we will look out for any change in the T&C'S

I guess it's around the individuals views on potential risk given Revolut's current lack of a dedicated Fraud Line and non-signatories to CRM as shown in Langtoftlad post #15.

There's nothing wrong with Revolut, you can contact them via chat and, to be fair, that's likely a lot quicker than ringing as it can take ages to get through to a human with most banks etc.

As with all things, just read the T&Cs, charges etc, and there'll be no problem. If you are stupid enough to fall for scammers then you can't blame Revolut for that!

We live live in a world of scammers and it can happen with any bank, I can’t understand why she would want to put her life savings in revolut?, surly you’d put it in a high interest account. I can’t fault revolut, I use it for Spain and Thailand and get the best exchange rates.

I keep a few Euros in Revolut enough for a tank fill maybe. Still use my UK card and don't mind paying a very small fee for the privilege.

Not just banks but anyone I have to ring.If the phone cannot be answered within 20 seconds the first thing I do is make complaints. If you can't answer a phone in that time you need more employee's.

You re not just paying a small fee, you re also getting a much worse rate than you could have got and then paying a £3 ish fee as well. Depending on the prevailing rates could easily exceed 10%

But most, if not all, bricks and mortar banks have dedicated 24hour fraud lines and these are advertised online and, in a number of cases, on your monthly statements \ online banking. Some even have more than one individually linked to specific service types, eg credit card, personal bank account, etc.

The 159 option is a newish voluntary "standardised" number that will get you through to any bank that is a signatory to the CRM scheme.

Revolut, as far as is being reported, have neither (or does not work efficiently).

I use premium Revolut just for travel funds and currency exchange. As for putting my entire savings into it ? No way Jose.
On that basis it’s very good.

I use Revolut for paying campsites by bank transfer as well as in shops. Wont buy fuel with it at card pumps for obvious reasons.
Like any other bank they have the ability to turn off atm transactions and contactless, they also only allow transcations using gps if you want so you have to be seen to be at the location to make the payment such as an ATM.
My card is turned off for internet transactions and atm withdrawals.

I also like the ability to create a one time use card for online transactions that you really aren't certain of.

Never been charged in all the years Ive had it.

Does this kind of fraud not happen with other high street banks..?
Of course it does, but the point is that Revolut (and others) offer little or no support or the prospect of reimbursement if something goes wrong. There’s always those who claim it can never happen to them because….. but it can and does happened to anybody. If you have an account with one of these e-banks and transfer money in using another account, then you’re potentially vulnerable to professional fraudsters.
Contrast the experience of a ‘bricks & mortar’ bank with an e-bank. The former will often spot suspicious activity before you do and lock the account pending resolution.
