OH and I both have these cards and wondered if anybody has had to verify the source of their funds to Revolut. I don’t appear to ‘fit’ their criteria in as much that I get two gov pensions with no payslip and OH gets her ‘funds’ from me into her bank account. No phone number for Revolut on their site and the ‘chat’ is a computer! Reason I ask is a friend was asked to verify theirs at a 200 quid spend and I don’t want to get caught out whilst abroad.

We were asked to verify our expenditure when using it for the first time away from UK. We were only asked to confirm that we had tried to use the card - we’ve never been asked to verify where our funds come from. Not sure how we could even respond as our income is derived from various sources. I’m not sure anyone could be specific as to how a single payment was funded?

It sounds very strange that your friend was asked to do so...

First I've heard you have to verify with a £200 spend sounds well dodgy to me, my wife and I both have Revolut cards and neither of us had to verify anything. Revolute is not a credit card you have to give your bank details and top up the card from there, if you only have £20 on your revolut you cant make a purchase over the £20 until you top it up again.

since 2007, 25 years tuggin before that.
Recently asked to verify where the money came from , but it was a sizeable amount & not just a few hundred, but that's the same with all banks & building societies these days.
Jay even got the third degree from the bank when trying to get money out. " what do you want it for" they asked, if it had been me they were asking the answer would have been simple, Because it's my bloody money that's what for.

So my thread is not a total surprise to some then. I’ve taken a belt and braces approach and photographed my P60s which it seems are sufficient for my source of income and OH from me. When you delve into the dashboard the ‘funds verification’ stuff is definitely there so not ‘dodgy’

It was me that was telling Targetpaster about this last night. I had literally only spent €200 in total in France when they blocked me from uploading any more money. It was easy for me to sort out as I keep digital documents. It seems it is almost like a random spot check judging from the information on Revolut

OK everyone in the UK will hold a UK Pound account so any transaction from Euro's will attract attention

Revolut do ask for sources of huge amounts
As do ANY bank as they are on their guard against money laundering

Personally I have no problems as we have used Revolut for a few years and have saved so much in charges and exchange charges it's well in credit for us

Yes.. but when they phoned me I just said it was savings as I had retired
They the asked a totally odd question!
Was I related to anyone who had been a member of parliament or had worked for central government !

Not as far as I know said I

Oh, that's ok then, you are now free to add funds

To say I was baffled is an understatement :)

Expect even tighter controls over prepaid cards when the Fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directive (known as MLD5) is implemented in January 2020.

They may be testing their systems.

I had a different issue with Revolut and used the 'chat'
After ages and ages of inappropriate conversation ! with a computer I got through to a real person who was very helpful.

Eventually that happened to me, one second after I gave them a one star review for the computer ‘chat’.

Yep. they ask questions when transferring large amounts, they are required to do so for reasons stated above.......I transferred via them funds to buy our Spanish apartment...that kicked off well, with them asking where the money had originated and where is it going...I got really p***ed off with them and made it known.
I was given a account upgrade worth 70€ I recall and never had further problems.....I use my card/account daily and find it user friendly after my initial problems with them.
