Retro fit cab A/C in an X250 Ducato , anyone fitted it (1 Viewer)

I'm a newbie
My X250 doesn't have cab A/C and as we're planning on using it in Europe 2023 I was thinking of getting it fitted

I've got a hab AC unit new in the box ready to be fitted which can be run from an inverter on the move but needs a big pure sine wave one which is expensive so I'm thinking separate cab A/C run from the engine would be better .

Has anyone done it , is there a kit , as they come with A/C from the factory the parts must be about

7 years campers before that
generally its a no the cost of parts even from a breakers will be more than the cost of an invertor and it would probably need to be coded into the ecu

The cost of a high capacity pure sinewave invertor and lithium battery bank and battery2battery charger would be a lot cheaper than any cab aircon retrofit. If you absolutely must have cab, aircon, simple buy a van with it already fitted.
My 3.0 X250 has a 9000btu zircon that is a free standing unit running on a 1kw pure sine wave inverter or a Honda Eu10.

Thanks , that's about the figure I had in my head , the hab AC unit I have is a dometic freshwell 3000

It's got three vents so one, possibly two would need to be directed into the cab area to keep it cool

Their inverter kit costs £1769, what I don't want to end up with is the worst of both worlds as I think the hab AC will be quite efficient in an insulated van with screen insulation and the window blinds down but might not be great on the move

Yes, well i have helped a friend do just that, he got all the parts from a breaker, i can tell you that it was a pig of a job, although i wasn't present for all of it,he is well experienced as am i, so know our way round things, but it was still difficult, i think he had problems coding it to work, as well,i wasn't present for that bit, just the assembly/disassembly.
we both said we wouldn't do it again.

My Hymer didn’t have dash air when I first saw it. Its a 2007 van, but on the older X244 chassis. The dealer had clearly lost a sale or two due to its absence. A retro fit kit, or most of it, was still available at the time. A specialist company did the fit. I think it was about £2k plus vat.
Its a bonus in a hot country. Especially in an A class.
It was paid for by the dealer, but instead of a discount! I don’t regret it.
I should add that this van already had roof air. Hymer’s own (sorry, can’t recall the brand name on it) water evaporative unit. These units work on mains or 12v on the move.
Once I got that going, it proved both quiet and efficient and would have been enough probably.
So I would spend your money on the inverter kit. You are halfway there in costs anyway

Thanks , yes I think you're correct , my initial worry was I'd end up with a worst of both worlds , spent £1500 but it didn't cool the cab area enough
But having spoken to an AC engineer buying the dometic inverter kit is the most expensive way of doing it so I'll look into it further once we decide we're going abroad in it, very unlikely to be this year
