Just weeks away from retirement and looking to buy my first s/hand motorhome.

Intending to travel solo in the UK for a while and then hop across the water to Europe, so looking at LHD options.

Not quite sure what I'll but yet, but keeping a beady eye on the for sales everywhere.

Hobby is ham radio - any fellow hams out there on the road?

Anyway . . . hello !

Welcome..
Lots of single van owners on here and also quiet a few hams.
I am licensed but to be honest lost interest a long time ago, had a retail store selling some of the equipment back in the day.

Ref the LHD, many of us have RHD and travel abroad often. No issues wherever the steering wheel is located.

Hi and welcome to the fun, don’t let RHD put you off unless you intend to spend most of you time traveling abroad.
I think @Jaws is a radio ham.

Hi and welcome:)
There are several hams on here Nigel, with interests from top band to microwave, from ratty to fast scan.
Oddly though, few have a rig in their van ( all I have is a chicken box )

Like your thinking re LHD.
Cheaper to buy in the uk .. As a first van I would look for a twenty year old + German import.. Something like a Hobby. The older Hobbys are extremely well put together, and do not have friends sensitive electronics to worry about....bro when you fire up that kW MFJ or Nag you will not have to worry ! LOL !

Thanks for the welcome and the comments. Been looking at some +/- 20 year LHD Hymer’s as possibilities.

Intending to bring along the ham gear and work out what to put on as antennas, when I have something to put them on !

Very much an SSB HF op and like contests too. Thoughts of portable operation in interesting places appeals, having been on several DXpeditions. Have to love CEPT too.

RHD is much safer on narrow French roads, at least you can see the ditch and whatever is lurking under the grass on the verge.

As for buying your motorhome, remember that it is not your money that you are spending, it is your heirs hoped for inheritance.
