I recently had to cancel our first ever "meet" out with the "funsters", over the new year at Cheltenham, due to RLS.

PLEASE, Have you or are you troubled by RLS . If you have had and cleared or controlled it please let me know how you did it? It is driving me mad, due to losing so much sleep. The Doctors keep giving me different drugs but non seem to help. We are planning to leave on the 19th January for our trip to Spain and don't want to cancel this one.

OVER TO YOU.

Recommended quinine (only available on prescription) to someone we know who was suffering from RLS. It worked for her.

if your current doctors not getting there..what about looking on web for a support group, as they tend to be up to date with information, maybe point you in the right direction. what you need is a referral to a specialist. just dont be fobbed off as its obviously causing anxiety......

here you go links attached:

Well .... I feel for you! I know this very well, having had a Partner with different problems and among them restless legs. Now and then the drugs had a little effect, but I am not sure there's a real treatment.
Do you have other health problems which could have started the RLS?
He was diagnosed fibromyalgia as well and was 9 out of 10 on the scale of "human suffer" if you have such a scale in the UK. Most of the time the legs were quieter when he was less suffering .....So may be a side effect, which would mean you have to treat the first problem to reach the problem of RLS .
Have a look on internet , may be there are a few answers?....

Go and see an applied Kiniesiologist.....it may be as simple as a lack of a specific vitamin......and try some Bowen Therapy. Nit has helped with the problem, but you need to keep having treatment. For Kiniesiology I can reccommend Jenny at Tonic Health in Spalding.....she got my grandson functioning again after he was struck down with CFS and she is looking after me and my thyroid. With her help am off conventional meds. Which I am happy about!

I used to suffer from this and I was shattered all the time from not having any sleep at night... I drank tons of tonic water with quinine in. I don't know whether that helped but I now only get RLS very seldom. DO NOT DRINK TONIC WATER IF YOU ARE PREGNANT THOUGH... DO NOT TAKE QUININE IF YOU ARE PREGNANT.

Diet.....you need foods with the correct nutrients.

Not quite RLS but I suffer severe leg cramps at night from time to time and put it down to dehydration.

Now i drink around a gallon of water a day.....and still get cramps, along with the need to pee 2 or 3 times a night.
Don't know which is worse....the occasional cramp or regular peeing.

I would take a close look at LCHF it is helped with lots and diabetics who have neuropathy (tingling that spreads up the legs/arms damage from to much glucose in the system) they have had huge relief from it. It doesn't mean you eat chunks of fat you eat full fat foods not low fat you cut out starches and carbs so no bread/spuds/rice/pasta the following will help explain.
Loads of recipes out there, feel free to message me for more info on ingredients. A good start point is the link below and also on that link on the top line TOPICS >> Health Problems covers other health issues.

You need to take magnesium tablets. MagAbsorb are good. 1 tab three times a day. Should sort you out!

I get it sometimes and I think it is caffeine related for me, luckily only an occasional happening but drives me mad when it occurs, a bit like tinnitus which has the same causation for me.

Wife suffers a lot with this, tried variousnthings and nothing has worked yet, one lot of tablets did but the side effects were worse!!

If you havent done so already..give caffeine the boot completley, seems to be a big culprit for a lot of folk from what ive read doing some research

I suffer from copd and have to take preneisolne (steroids) regularly to ease my breathing , these cause severe cramps in legs and feet, the only relief I get is by taking quinine sulphate tablets. Dont know if they can be bought over the counter at chemists ,I get mine on prescription... Hope this helps

If this is of any use, 1724 tonic water is the best for natural quinine, if you can get it.

Suffered with it for years, mainly if my legs are warm in bed - they tend to feel hotter than the rest of me, went to the doctor with it about 15 yrs ago an he said he had never heard of it - like most of them utter useless !

Try sleeping on your side with a pillow in between your knees, may sound odd but a physiotherapist gave me the tip and it's worked wonders, still need to get up for a pee a couple of times a night but no cramp at all for a couple of years now.

I was going say magnesium tablets for cramp, too Cat. I know several people who have had great success getting rid of cramp for quite long periods.

Diabetic neuropathy is a bit different from RLS really - the diabetic sort is caused by too-high BG actually shutting down - killing - nerve endings - which protest whether they are dying or regenerating - you get this with other sorts of neuropathy too - like dropping a heavy grill-pan on your toe and half-killing the nerve (or rather half killing one of the two nerves, since it was my big toe. It didn't hurt when it was numb, just felt really strange. However when it was healing it was very painful - sharp shooting pains along the length of the nerve ending. Owww.

I don't think RLS is caused by nerves dying, is it? I mean - everyone must have that thing when your arm or leg shoots out when you are almost asleep occasionally, surely?

I know I have it once every few years and both husbands had/have it more often than that. Both husbands always wake me up when they did it/do it though it never seemed/seems to wake the husband!

Have a friend in SA who was poisoned with arsenic at a birthday party when she was a child. She survived (just) some didn't, but it has damaged the sheath surrounding the nerves in her legs and she got RLS. Her doctor sent her to a Kiniesiologist and it's now nicely under control. Hers is a direct result of the poisoning and said poison causing the damage. Not the same for others I know. But think the right level of vitamins and minerals for your body will help big time. Kiniesiology is really weird, but it's totally painless, gets to the root of the problem and then deals with it. I really urge you to give it a go. Make sure it's an APPLIED Kiniesiologist you see.

I suffered for years with RLS until one day someone suggested MAGNESIUM. Since then I have never suffered again!
You can get magnesium tablets cheaply at Tesco, yellow container, off the shelf. They work better when taken with something that has calcium, like milk, yogurt and cheese.
I call them my 'magic tablets' and take one a day.
Good luck, Annie:)

Things you can do right now to see if it helps. Water, lots of it! During the day. Tip: from my mum, get a pint glass, fill from tap leave on side., far easier to drink at room temp. Should be drinking 3 litres a day. Second, caffeine , cut it out! I drink caffeine free coffee and green tea. And see how you get on......I used to have regular terrible night cramps, never these days....

Don't drink in the evenings if you don't want to be needing a pee in the night.
