Team,

There's a good thread running on the German Possl Forum whereby there are many reports of dodgy moon roofs by new owners.

Faults such as horrendous wind noise; severe vibrations which then create gaps between the window and its seals; and finally a number of water leaks too.

If you've got a Prime or have one on order then just be mindful of the various moon roof issues.

From what I gather a number of owners are lobbying their dealers for them to make a formal complaint to Dometic.

Regards,

Andrew

Yes - there are reports from new owners of increased road noise with this type of roof - it's a popular option on Adria & lots of other makes too. Whilst it does give lots of light & the feeling of increased space we had something similar on our previous motorhome & the blind was 2/3 shut most of the time as too hot in sunshine & big heat loss in winter just like a house conservatory roof. To be fair some do love it though so like all motorhome designs personal preference will vary.
There is always competition to add something new to motorhomes each year - electric drop down beds were very popular until there were many reports of them getting stuck whereas the manual pull down version has stood the test of time.

Ah but the new Skyroof on the Pössl/Globecar Summit Prime is not the same as your Adria or any other motorhome as the design is different. It was the first of its kind on a campervan as it can be opened. Some other campervan converters are now introducing the Skyroof for their 2021 season. I had the Globecar 540 Summit Prime as a likely purchase but I'll have to think carefully about it now.

Most windows on the sides, roof Heki & panoramic roof windows are made by manufacturers like Dometic rather than motorhome brands - these manufacturers pitch their new products to the brands & then some may have exclusive rights for a year before they are rolled out to others. Our panoramic roof on our Chausson 7 years ago was an opening one so that's not a new thing although adapting them for van conversions is still relatively recent. We first saw the Adria version on the Twin in Germany 2 years ago - that may well have been the first van version that didn't open but presume the opening van version is just the latest version of this.

Yes hence why the water leaks reported! Unlike the non-opening skylight as found in your Adria, the Summit Prime Skyroof is not flush with the bodywork and sticks out, hence all the problems with vibrations and wind noise. Pössl seem to have launched the Summit Prime without proper r&d.

Sorry for my slow response but yes, you're correct; there's a whole load of difference between the Adria and Possl sky windows in terms of R&D.

Some members of the German Possl Forum believe that Possl has just slapped-in the sky roof without testing it first and the volume of subsequent fault reports by German owners has been significant.

A quick update for those Prime owners and the sky roof.

The German guys are reporting a couple of problems relating to cracking in the front sky roof spoiler, i.e. the long spoiler just below the sky roof itself - pic below.

One report says that Globecar has used the wrong glue and as such it doesn't expand correctly in the cold and heat.

One to watch out for ;-)
