Don't own one yet
There are plenty of how to vids on you tube, but I'm sure others will answer with more details.

It's not so much the 'how to', more about where to get quality items, that are a direct replacement.

I replaced the fluo tube in my awning light with a COBB led strip off ebay, just removed the electronic bits to leave + &_ leads . stuck with double sided tape. Worked well for a couple of quid.

There's a few T8 and T5 LED based tubes i.e. a tube that fits into your fitting just as the regular one but inside are LED's.

Sizes will be the limitation though and prices are not that cheap.

Thanks all, I've ordered a pair of the 'Cobb' ones to start with, only £1.99 so nothing lost.... and thanks Roger for your link that's very helpful.

Some led bulbs are voltage sensitive, designed to work on 12v not the 14+v needed for charging batteries. When I converted my previous mh to led I had to add small electric circuit boards into the fittings to stabilise the voltage at 12v. Cheap off ebay but a bit fiddly to fit. I think the 12v g4 led bulbs I used were originally designed for kitchens and bathrooms where the 12v comes from a stable mains powered supply and charging voltages are not encountered. The led spot lamp fittings in my new mh have small circuit boards built in and it is possible that these are there to protect the leds from the higher voltages needed in battery powered circuits.

Last time I did that I removed all the tube light fittings completely and replaced them with new LED-based light fittings. When it came to replacing halogen bulbs with LED bulbs in the smaller lights it was sometimes necessary to rotate the bulb mount by 90 degrees. A bit of Araldite saw to that.
