Today I fitted the front disc rotor and disc pads to my 1976 Triumph T140 just waiting for the stainless hoses which I’ve ordered to arrive. In the second picture of the new disc is my spare engine
and in the last picture are the old pads which had started to chip on the end I am changing the pads as I don’t know how old they are and looking at the old discs they could be original 1976. just the rear discs to do next.

I like that disc but I think I’ve spent enough so far. My brake improved most by fitting a smaller master cylinder (13mm) though now I’m thinking it’d be even better with a floating disc.
As an aside, I always felt mine revved too much at 50/60mph in top with its standard 47 tooth rear sprocket, so I’ve fitted a 43 and now it does 60mph at 3100rpm. Too far, so I’ve gone for a 45 now.

I know you increase the hydraulic leverage but how is it for lever travel? is there sufficient travel in reserve

Hettie's Crew I thought mine was revving to much at 60mph so what’s it like with the 45 toothed sprocket, have you left the primary drive sprocket as standard?

John.
I’ve left the gearbox at the standard 20, you only need to change that on conical hub models. I went to a 43 after checking lots of forums but have now realised most of them are in Australia and the US, spending time on highways, I prefer country roads. I’ve only just ordered the 45 so I’ll let you know when it’s on.

When I bought my 1972 750 Commando the brochure said 0 to 60 4.5secs, top speed 124mph. They didn't mention you needed a 19 tooth sprocket for the 0 to 60 and a 24 tooth sprocket for the top speed! Truth in advertising? Not then.

I've been fitting my new wheels this week - after buying them over two years ago ---- I know! I've been busy with new vans and kitchens :swear2:

I've used the original callipers and pads but they do seem to be rubbing a bit much - may be a quick bed in will cure it:Eeek:

Neckender Just been out for a 60/70 mile ride after fitting the 45 tooth sprocket. Definitely the best size and I’ll be sticking with it, 60mph at 3300rpm, feels less frantic than the standard 47 but better than the lazy, labouring 43 I’d fitted. After about 40 miles my speedo packed up, wagging crazily between 10 and 40mph when I was doing about 55/60, so another job to do.

Thanks Hettie's Crew thats great news as I’ve also ordered a 45 tooth sprocket and it’s been delivered today, I’m at our static at the moment and it will be the first job I do when we get home.
I finished the brakes last week when I fitted new stainless steel hoses took it for a short run and the brakes were a lot better than the solid discs.
John.
