Hi, we’ve just got back from a lovely week in Cromer despite the torrential rain and high winds. Whilst there we discussed again the possibility of replacing the table that is fitted in our Rollerteam 696 with a slightly smaller table so we can get around a bit easier. As it is adjustable we think we could get away with a slightly shorter table. Has anyone done this and if so, where did you source the new top. We need it to be light but reasonably strong. The existing one drops to act as part of the base for the fifth berth but we don’t ever use it. We’ll keep the original just in case we sell the van.

I have done this, I removed the fixed table in the Rapido, and fabricated a support leg, offset to the side with an offset swivelling top made from varnished plywood. It is much lighter too, however being more cantileverd it will not carry the same load. It is adequate for our purposes, and should we need more space we bring in the folding aluminium "picnic" table, normally used outside. I initially converted the existing Rapido folding top using a pair of folding legs of Flea bay. but it is still a Heavy beast to move about, hence the construction of the lightweight one.

I took ours out of our Hymer and have fitted a boom arm round table to the side of each swivel chair and when not in use I can fit them on stowage clips in the wardrobe.??

I bought this: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-5...0001&campid=5338547443&icep_item=262810263752

and This: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-5...0001&campid=5338547443&icep_item=262810263752

Also I had to buy the hook over type of bracket can't remember where, but I think you can find them on ebay.
We still use the original table when we take a Grandkid with us as it makes up the base for the bed, but my replacement must be at least 20kg lighter than the original and gives us much more space.

We kept the table base and bought a New top to our spec. LAMFORM 01202 892 485 They will send you samples of laminate and indicate what they have spares of so you don’t need the whole sheet. Under £60 plus delivery. 30 mm thick. 750 x 530 that size is what worked for us.

It depends on how well you want to match the original table's material/colour etc. I usually remove the original table top in our MHs and put my own smaller version in, I've bought tables from charity shops, car boot sales etc and used just the top, or just a suitable panel. In our previous camper it was the top of an mdf chest drawers that someone was selling for £1! As I always cover them in a vinyl/plastic table cloth so they are easy to keep clean the colour doesn't matter, it's the shape/width that does (although if needs be I just cut them to size. By removing the original top not only does it save weight but also means that I don't have to worry about it being damaged if the dogs clamber on it when I'm not there and the next owner will have a nice 'new' table top!

Dogs clambering on the table top - blimey!

I bet most owners haven't got a clue what their pooches get up to when left alone in the MH/camper ... at least we 'prepare' for it just to be sure!

We love the layout of our van apart frrom the oversized lounge table, so after approx. a month went online to look at getting a replacement moveable round table similar to the free stander we had in our 1st van. Went on Oleary,s website and found one that looked similar in colour (cherry) and as luck would have it it was a perfect match. We were going to use the orinal base form our 1st free stander but it did not really match the mainly chrome fittings in this van. We ended up using the base from our adjustable perching stool and it looks as it was fittedd originally so very pleased with it. The origianal table now packed away and stored safely. The beauty of this set up is we can lower it to coffee table height if the need arises.

Thanks everyone, some great ideas and links. Our cats tend to run all over the place and we already have a table protector and vinyl covering the existing table, so no point in spending too much but it will be much nicer to have something smaller as there are only two of us.

Ikea do some table tops:

A couple of Funsters have used this company, we considered buying a smaller circular top to replace the existing one in our van.
Have a look plenty to chose from:

Hi Minxy/Tina, my missus mentioned Ikea and even using a Lack tabletop which would be just a few quid and quite light. We might need a trip out and worst case we get to eat some meatballs. The Rainbow conversions ones look really nice and not too expensive either. Might even be able to get a jazzy coloured one! Thanks for your help, really appreciate it.

We replaced our big table with this table it’s solid teak and came from a marine supply company that would usually sell to a yacht or boat user.
The company’s called marine teak.

B&Q and others sell rolls of table top patterns. Find an old table you like for size and cover yourself. Did this after filling hole made in our main table and covered the sink cover in the same pattern to make them blend in.

O' Leary's near Hull have table tops of every size and colour. They probably have thousands of them. We bought one there for £35. Unfortunately their website is rubbish, but they have several warehouses full of caravan and motorhome stuff.

Quite like the look of the Marine Teak folding one but I might have to go and buy a piece of wood two hinges and draw on the compass! I’ve sent a screenshot of it to the missus which was probably a mistake on reflection as if she likes it I’m down for about £300 ?
