Hi, I am in the process of replacing my radio/CD player in my Burstner 599 motorhome. The replacement that I need is a radio/CD player/ Sat Nav ...... that is a decent Sat Nav where I can at least type in my vehicles dimensions.

The existing radio/CD player is a single din system (so I’m told) and fitted within the standard Fiat Ducato dash.

Any replacement suggestions would greatly appreciated please.

Thanks.

Interesting to observe that since posting my query have had 70 viewings but no response as yet. Can I ask please for any feedback as to why this is. Is it because I am expecting too much out of any such system? Is it better to have a separate motorhome Sat/Nav iOS Co-pilot etc?

I am fearful that any combination system would not provide a suitable motorhome Sat/Nav (where I can plug-in the van size etc).

It's a tricky question.

Is the opening in the dash double din? That's the main question. What year of ducato is it.

You can get single din devices with pop out screens big enough for sat navigation, but not many still have cd players.

It's a big ask to have sat nav in a system without spending quite a bit of dosh.

With built in satnavs can be costly to upgrade and may not have ability to put soze of van in. I use a separate garmin that is for motorhomes so you can put dimensions and weight in. To date it has been good in not getting me into tight corners. Can update via computer ( need todo it before next year)

There just aren't many in-dash satnavs that allow you to put in your dimensions. I had one a Zenec Z-E3726 that I'm selling shortly. That did claim to have dimension considerate routing. But I didn't get on with the interface. I switched to a radio with Android Auto support so I could use my phone. I've lost the ability to input my vehicle size, but I find it's rarely an issue.

You can get double din Android devices for about £80 and of course because thay are basically tablets in the shape of a double din stereo you can run any sat nav software you like so long as there is a android version. No CD player though, although to be honest not many new cars have cd players anymore.

The single din is not an issue as it will take a double din easily with slight modification, I fitted a Kenwood motorhome truck system as it allows you to put dimensions in. Comes with apple car play or android so you can use all your favourite apps such as bbc radio whilst abroad. Also has a dash camera that can be viewed along with the revers camera whilst driving.

I bought a double-din Pioneer unit because the satnav had dimensions. It doesn’t seem to make any difference. If the database is wrong any satnav will lead you up the garden path.

I also cannot get my unit to display correct speed limits. Not just data. It doesn’t recognise weights above 3.5 t as having different rules.

That’s because 3.5t has little bearing on uk speed limits as it’s based on unladen weight as per the vehicle manufacturer being below 3.05t
Motor caravans (motorhomes or campervans) with an unladen weight of up to 3050kg (3.05 tonnes) and no more than 8 passenger seats:

  • Single Carriageways: 60mph
  • Dual Carriageways: 70mph
  • Motorways: 70mph
Motor caravans (motorhomes or campervans) with an unladen weight of greater than 3050kg or more than 8 passenger seats:

  • Single Carriageways: 50mph
  • Dual Carriageways: 60mph
  • Motorways: 70mph
(These are the same as van speed limits for vans and lorries up to 7.5 tonnes)

I was talking about mainland Europe. But regardless the satnav knows where I am so should be able to display appropriate speed limits, given the unladen and gross weights.

That looks useful. Can you indicate what model might be available currently with Apple carplay? I have a 2012 Burstner Ducato (double din). The pioneer radio/cd is annoying and the reversing camera is poor, sitting on top of the dash.

Hi Robert I have the Kenwood truck DNX-451RVS as it allows me to input vehicle dimensions and comes with Garmin maps, ACSI direct mapping for campsites, and shows speeds in all countries.
Free 4 year traffic info, apple car play so I can listen to radio 2.
not cheap about £800.

Thanks 10tenmen. Yes that’s slightly pricey but it looks very nice in situ. I’ve only recently bought the MH and it’s my first one so I’ll keep it in mind while I decide how long I’m going to have it. Useful to know what the model number is for comparison. Grateful.

You could get a head unit that has a usb input then use either a tablet or mobile phone tethered to the stereo. Copilot (used to be called co pilot truck) allows input of dims etc and once a licence has been bought the account can be used on any device, apple or android etc.

Thanks Taff

Thanks mitzitmad

I’ve taken the face off the fitted Pioneer unit for the present and will use TomTom on my iPhone for the time being. Definitely don’t need a CD player. Haven’t used the van yet so I’m biding my time presently.

I fitted one of these to my van

This

In my car, i didn't want to cut anything and fitted
this

Keep in mind you have to buy the dab aerial adaptor and no cd player but you can rip cds to mp3 and put a micro sd car for all.

Personally, if I was to do the van, again I would buy the one I have for my car. I think its a better solution.

Can put sygic truck satnav on either. I've used a few satnavs where you can put dimensions in and they all still try and take you on chappy roads.

I’ve realised that I need a single din unit, not a double. My main interest is to use my iPhone for satnav and have a radio that doesn’t go straight into “demo mode” whenever it powers up. I’ve just ordered a Pioneer SPH-10BT and hope that it will fit easily into the single space occupied by the present, old Pioneer unit.

It‘s necessary to detach the face of the old one to guarantee not draining the habitation battery so I’m hoping this later one will be better in that respect. No doubt YouTube will help with the installation.
