Due to a dealer error when ordering our Mercedes base vehicle, it came with the standard plastic steering wheel rather than the leather wrapped one that we’d ordered. I know it’s a first world problem but I hated that steering wheel with a passion!

Following a recommendation from a fellow funster, thank you GeoffChausson, I got in touch with Josh at Royal Steering Wheels and following great advice from him ordered a replacement wheel with smooth leather at top and bottom with perforated leather on each side, bit more padding than original and black stitching.

Just got it fitted at their (small) premises at Stoke Mandevil and I’m absolutely delighted with it. Looks great, feels great and matches the dashboard trim wonderfully. Highly recommend them to anyone who is thinking about this for their car/camper.

Ok

Is it the original wheel recovered, or is it a brand new wheel ?

Also roughly what cost ?

(I also have a Splinter base, it was one of the last of the 'old style' ones)

You can do either. If you’re handy(unlike me!) then you can send them your wheel, they recover it and send it back to you.

I went for the fitting service, sent a number of photos, mine has steering wheel controls and paddles, they source a replacement wheel, ours is a 2021 model so was new, trim it and swap it for the existing wheel, on basis it’s as good as new.

Cost was £175 plus £20 fitting which I thought was great value, especially compared to Mercedes prices.

That’s the dogs doodahs, very nice job👍
