Hi all, has anybody any experience of replacing a grill with an oven in their van? We have an Autocruise Accent with a grill which we don't use and we would like to replace it with an oven which we would use a lot. If anybody could point us in the right direction it would be much appreciated. I have attached a piccie of the current setup.

We had same grill and wanted the oven, the opening was to small!
We are now looking at adding big a drawer instead.

What are the measurements of the gap into which it needs to fit?

Its not just about the unit size itself but also ventilation as an oven could get very, very hot, much more than a grill so you may need to also install an external vent too.

The Thetford Spinflo duplex oven does not require external ventilation but does need air gaps above and below and to each side which makes the space required quite a bit bigger than the oven itself.

That looks like a nice grill.
There are other ways to cook without an oven.
We decided, after a lot of thought, not to have one and have more drawer space instead.
In smaller vans, compromise is required.

The gap does look very small. I think you'd probably need to break into the cupboard below, which might require considerable carpentry skills. It also looks decidedly narrow.

Another thought, if you always use sites with EHU just take a mains powered small oven instead.

I’m fortunate to have a vent behind the grill.

I’ve seen these grills replaced with a microwave on a few occasions.

But I’m not sure if the change is a worthwhile addition.

I normally just use the CAD......no.....gas griddle / stove with a lid 😉😂

You might just fit in a Dometic OV1800. Hard to tell without dimensions. You'll probably lose the top drawer and have to stick in a bit of a filler panel, but again hard to tell without measurements.

I think that's a smev 20 litre grill same as we had in our rollerteam waste of space. Replaced it with larger 30litre smev oven by removing air gap and a little bit of feterling. Works great use it alot. It came with fitting kit that gives a small air gap all the way around. Only concern with yours is the left hand side a flat piece may be needed.

Removed one of those from previous van and did what minxy suggested above.
Small electric oven from argos which left space all around for ventilation.

I've just had a quick shuftie at the size of the grill compared to the grill/oven and the latter is taller and wider so unless you want to do a lot of work to the cabinetry I don't think it's gonna work.

If you are happy to lose the drawer below the grill I am sure it can be done. We have a SMEV oven and grill which use a lot. You just need to check the dimensions and find one which will fit. You will probably need to add a new shelf to support it.

Thanks for all your thoughts. The available space is too tight to fit an oven in currently. I am looking at replacing the whole kitchen unit with a custom made one including an oven. We are mostly off grid so EHU solutions are a no go. I will post when we have made a decision. As usual, thank you all for your help.

I specked the Spinflo oven and grill for my new van because its much more powerful than the Domestic's.
It also seems much better quality.
If I was fitting out the complete kitchen I would go for the complete unit Spinflo Triplex Caravan LPG Cooker (Hob, Oven & Grill) £499
