I realise that the proper answer is to replace but while I am saving my pocket money what do you recommend for effecting a temporary repair pls?

Thanks in advance.

temporary repair could be a decent silca-set sealant and a piece of Perspex. Allows you to source a replacement, the cost of a replacement window is insignificant compared to the cost of repairing water ingress/damage.

Edit, Sorry you may appreciate that and still be budget constrained. However sometimes the bigger picture needs to be considered. Do the best you can and plan for the future.

Agree with @pyro. We used Captain Tolley's on a 'creeping' crack in our windscreen (which didn't impede my vision) as we were going to France the next day. It was brilliant! Stopped the crack from spreading and was still working when we had the windscreen replaced on the return from our trip.

I would drill a small hole at the end of the crack, stop drilling it is called, then cover the hole with a piece of sellotape or similar until you have the funds.
Take care,
Norman.

Thanks all - looks like Capt Tolley's in the short term.

The rain was so heavy today that I'm surprised it did not come in through an uncracked window.

You may find that your windscreen insurance cover will....eh cover it .
On a classic van I had one of the side DG windows got cracked,as they were no longer available anywhere the window was sent off (via Auto-glass) to a firm up in Yorkshire Link Removed
they made a new one . Cost me £50 windscreen excess

Thank's for the tip about potential Insurance cover though I will have to check the xs level when we return home.
