My eight years old Maxview Crank-up is showing its age (no rust just ingrained dirt) and I plan to give it a good sanding down and repaint.
Are there any types of paint to be avoided which might reduce the effectiveness of the dish. Any recommendations of which type of paint is best.

levee it laying around banksay might drop by

As long as it isn't reflective anything you choose is OK - you'd have to put it on very thick to have any effect.

dont use hammeritte, as the dish is plastic not metal use a pvc window refresher paint that should do the trick, all mettalic paint is a no no.

How about a powder coat?

isn't that what it does.. ie.. reflects the signal and focuses it onto the LNB ?
Just what I thought Jim. I have seen many dishes painted over the years it makes no difference what sort of paint you use you are reflecting a signal not light.

I took my dish off and had it powder coated about 3 years ago..
Do be VERY careful who you get to do it though
Over zealous use of a sand blaster will warp / distort the dish making it perform very poorly

The dish focusses the signal onto the LNB. It has been known to do the same with the sun.:)

And to answer Capt Picard I'd want a picture on it if I was re-painting. (the Enterprise would look good:))

never thought of that.
I suppose that is a distinct possibility in Spain.. but not here today
Nice day here but my dishes aren't in danger.:) It isn't something I've experienced but it made sense when I read it.

in my instruction book for a kvh dome it states do not use mettalic paint.

Makes sense - the signal needs to get through the dome rather than bounce off it like a dish.
