Hi, not sure if this should be self-build,

My son bought this earlier in the year for very little money which is no surprise considering what we are having to do to it.

this is how it came to us on back of RAC wagon after gearbox failed on M5

Welp that's definitely a project vehicle...
Your Son will love it, even if it is an old knacker, he will learn trade skills in fixing it up that's for sure and some great father Son building times in there too I suspect..

Crack on!!

Saw one of those beige body AS in a wreckers yard in Carharrack. The inside was a bit of a disaster area but it was fairly dry, no water stains, not sure if it was a Bedford though as I was more interested in finding a VW T4.

If it was the right price he will end up with a nice van for little outlay.
I take it most of the water ingress was though leaking window seals and rooflights. The GRP monocoque is normally fairly sound.

Good work so far keep us updated

When it’s finished I hope that you have many years of fabulous holidays.
May I suggest that you name it “Phoenix”. As it has risen from the ashes?

A little background info
it was bogged up by someone not to far from here 2017/18 sold to an Aussie couple doing a European tour, well they must of made it as we have insurance doc's from Montenegro and Albania, they then returned to Glastonbury for the festival 2018, then stayed in the area till going home, somehow a guy from Wells got hold of it and got it MOT(dont know how) stuck it on the bay for silly money,he had no takers, but we kept the info, paul got in touch earlier this year and offered a very low amount(below 500) after a few days he got back to him and accepted, so we went to collect it expecting to drive it back(ha ha) it got as far as the M5, where the g/box let go going down the slip road, 1st thought it was clutch but no it had lost 3rd/4th gears and was out of balance so came home on RAC truck. pulled the box and it was a no go source another and that was as bad, so a change of plan has come about, more on that later when we start the mechanic's,

so going forward it sat for a while so a plan could develop,

we now have a plan sort of, so some more pic's some blurry but where there's a finger there's a hole, also working on front skylight the other 2 have been done,

this is 1st fix to plug all the holes, they will be redone with waterproof filler and blended in for new skylight to be fitted, which strangely are for RV's as they are the right size ie 14 .5 not the horrible things that were on it,

Well all glassing done, extra battens in and 1st line of insulation started. next is to dry run the panels in the pod as with fitting insulation things will need trimming, we have used sticky back foam but painted the walls with contact adhesive as we went along to try an avoid the heat making it come unstuck TheBig1 then we have a layer of polystyrene to go over it some area's will be 20mm and some 30+mm,

Buy decent rooflights & no screws are needed - worth doing now you've repaired the screw holes.
