Hi

We are looking at a 2011 Adria Vision A Class which is on a Renault Master base with 2500cc 150 BHP engine.

Previous motorhome and hires have always been based on Fiat Ducato so looking for experiences of the Renault Base both good and bad.

Thanks.

I have a 2017 Master -170BHP - Adria Matrix.
My MPG tends to reflect whether I am in a hurry or not but I have found ours more than acceptable. Airtop suspension gives a relatively stable and comfortable ride.
There must be a reason why Fiat have cornered the market but not too sure why, no doubt someone will be along to explain in technical terms. Having had to replace 2 Fiat/Peugeot dash displays (they still deny it is an issue), I am very happy with my Renault.

We have a van conversion on a Renault Master, so not fully comparable to an A class, but I find it comfortable to drive. Different system to Fiat, it uses Adblu rather that the EGR valve for emissions fiddles that we had so much trouble with on our Burstner.

I have a Adria vision I707 sg A class on a Renault master 2500 cc GU9 150 HP with Auto box,
Have owned her since 2010 and had very little problems, no intention of getting rid of her any time soon,
This year had to replace the EGR valve as she kept dropping into limp home mode,
when I first got her I replaced the turbo that it’s variable vanes had seized due to lack of use, it’s been fine this last 10 years,
Replaced the timing belt kit this year and the usual brake pads/ Discs and oil and filter changes once a year
Regardless of mileage,
Not tempting providence it’s been extremely reliable and the motorhome layout is exactly what we wanted so not looking to replace her,

Mine is a quick release type that goes down even when on, so the seat swivels still can be used,
Again haven’t had any problems with that except it works on the rear Discs so need a good tug to be effective holding on levelling ramps,

There's a fair bit of 'net info on the gearboxes failing on them at not crazily high mileage. We have an older 3 litre that's a nice drive. Coming up to 100 k miles now ?

We bought a 2008 (first registration in UK) Vision i677 a few months ago, we have put about 3000 miles on it since we got it, total mileage around 50,000. The donor vehicle itself appears to be a 2005 model going by the VIN.
Very happy with it, low mileage for a 12 year old van in great condition. As far as I can see it is the 150 BHP version. Engine just trundles along and gearbox seems sweet enough, and as long as you keep above 2200 revs on hills no need to down shift. Though of course going over the Pyrenees is a different story. She has averaged around 28 mpg but she can probably do better if I eased off 5 mph or so. Only problem we have had is the cruise control only works in limiter mode, I think it is most likely a loose connection or bad switch, just haven't had a chance to really look at it yet.

I've no experience of the Renault, but of the many things I considered, the Sevel vans are the widest and their shape (square sides) makes for a roomier van

I went for the Peugeot Boxer as, at the time, it had the ford cam chained engine rather than the Ducato belt jobbie....

My favourite van, the Master. Had a 2001 3ltr TD which I bought new and immediately took up to 240hp. 100k in 3yrs, drove it on the limiter everywhere. Yes it was white. Averaged 22mpg. Loved that van but wife to be didn’t - made me buy a mint green diesel corsa instead and a little part of me died. Had a hiatus until we bought our first camper 4 years ago on the 2008 120hp Master 2.5 TD. Was an overcab coachbuilt. We got 27mpg. Remapped and the engine gave great torque low on the Rev range compared to the 160 hp Peugeot (Bailey) that we replaced it with. Still averaged 27mpg, just stronger up the hills. Have this week picked up a “new” horsebox to replace the “old” 18 plate Theault on 2.0 Peugeot. This one is on a Master. Really straight 2005 plate Theault on on a Master 2.5TD and FSH. It’s 150hp GU9 which we call Trigger. 317k on the clock. new gearbox at 180k. New engine at 240k (2011). On semi-air. Drives so much better than the 160hp Peugeot. Wife took it back and forth to Newmarket sales today with 2 foals on board each way and the trip showed 27.6mpg. Probably a smidge better than the Peugeot would have given.
As with most diesels with EGR, they need to be driven like an Italian taxi from time to time to stop them coking up. Gearbox can be a weakness. Take it out for a drive and check how it feels when dropping down the box in particular.
I just wish more manufacturers used them as a base vehicle.

i have a 2011 swb master with the 2.3 125bhp engine and find it a great drive and so far reliable with 120k on the clock as with most things decent servicing helps pro long the life and being 2011 its galvanized so thats one less worry

The ducatos/boxers/ relays are chosen because they make them by the shedload in the biggest van factory in the world. No one else can compete on price. They are also (believe it or not) very dependable and well made. There are some issues but compared to the transit, sprinter, crafter they are pretty reliable.

I have a Renault Master Matrix Supreme and love the drive it gives. Just under 30mpg, automatic gearbox which last year in Boulognes morning rush hour decided to come to a total stop part way round a roundabout. We were just starting our 3 months tour. Panic, hooting of horns all around 🥸 Then it started and did not fail me since. I think it, being French, was doing its best to identify me as an English wally. It succeeded.

About 28mpg Very reliable. When bought had a/c problem, under warranty. Hard to find Renault dealer to check it. Added dye, ran for couple of weeks and Renault said no problem. Warranty ran out, a/c failed. £650 for condenser (NOT from Renault dealer) and now works perfectly.
Last year in rush hour Boulogne, auto gears stopped working, huge queue, fiddled about a lot and they worked again, not failed since. Van good, Renault service poor.
