Spent yesterday giving the van its first clean since coming back from 8 months in France in September. Brought the external windscreen cover back home for a clean too and discovered some hard, dried tree resin that had been on the screen cover since parking in Spain in March. I thought hot soapy water would do the trick. It didn't. Tried WD40-a little came off but not a lot.
Then tried some hand-sanitiser 70% alcohol. Resin came off with barely a rub. Clearly isopropyl (or rubbing alcohol) is the correct stuff to use but if you don't have any, then hand-sanitiser is just the job.
Sorry for any grandmothers here, who already suck eggs. ;)

😉 We was using hand sanitiser on our roof before it became fashionable. 😁
It was lovely being parked under the pine trees in Portugal in the shade, until we saw the outcome. 😯🤔 Bob.

My “discovery” of alcohol to remove sap was accidental. I’ve never been fasionable about anything. As SWMBO never tires of telling me.😂

Is it safe to use all these suggestions on the solar panels and plastic type roof lights please?

Auto Glym tar remover works for me. 5 b****y great fir trees by the side of our house which drop pine needles, resin, fir cones on the cars.

I've used cooking oil or hand moisturiser to remove pine sap from my hands , if it's stubborn add sugar or salt as an abrasive. Then wash with soap and water.
