We need to change the leisure battery beneath the seat. I've undone the 6 screws/nuts holding the assembly down. I'd read on other threads the seat assembly was heavy but not quite so heavy!!!

We're only a couple of lightweights, so does anyone know of a knack of doing this or moving it just far enough to access the battery space?

Any help gratefully received...

Not a Ducati but when I had to access the batteries under the drivers seat in our Transit I tipped the seat towards the passenger side rather than completely removing it.
The passenger side was easier not having the bathroom behind the seat but it was certainly heavy and ungainly.

I wanted to remove the drivers seat too, on our Ducato based Campscout. I just leant it back, being wary of the cables running through the center of the seat swivel. I had visions of the seat ejecting through the roof of the van if I disconnected them.
What exactly are they and is it ok to disconnect them?

Seatbelt pre-tensioner. Theoretically it can go bang. More likely, it'll just cause your airbag warning light to come on. Best to disconnect the cab battery and leave it 10 minutes before you play with it.

Just disconnect with ignition off it will only show a fault code if you switch ignition on while it's disconected

Think this has got the picture of what I did. Slide it across making sure the wires are not trapped.

i have 2 batteries under my drivers seat i have no choice but to remove it and as you have found out its very heavy .are you trying to move it while still attached to the swivel? if so dont do them separately as above do not turn the ignition on when you have undone the bolts for the seat you may be able to turn it so the back faces the passenger seat and tip it sideways then remove the swivel from the seat base take photos as you go for replacing it all

Yes, I am/was trying to remove them as one unit. So where is the best separation point between the seat and the swivel arrangement?

if you slide the seat forwards and backwards you will see the six bolts that attaches the seat to the swivel ,you wont believe how heavy the swivel is on its own

I know what is sensible but Is there a set recognised procedure for disconnection of the seat belt pre tension wiring.

I used to let the seat with swivel still attached slide / rock forwards to rest on the steering wheel. I found that with a little care I could manoeuvre two lead-acid batteries into place and connect them.

Good tip, I changed the base on my seat to a lowered one ( brilliant bit of kit) but I needed a special tool to lift the seat out , the special tool is called Neil the taxi driver , my mate whos built like a brick outhouse.
If you watch Jennings videos on youtube he is equally ironman , popping the seats out like they are a box of crisps, i tried it and nearly bust a bloodvessel!!

Having split the seat from the base I now know why the ******* thing was so heavy... There were two nuts to undo from the underneath as well as the 6 visible on the top.   It was easy when those had been dealt with...

A question for those who have done this.....
I know I could look this up but feeling lazy today šŸ¤”šŸ˜‰
Did you nerd to disconnect the battery prior to unclipping the seat tensioner connections under the seats?

I am also assuming that if you switch on the ignition with the tensioners unplugged then it will require a reset via obd2.
