I've a van with tracker and of course immobiliser. It doesn't have either an alarm or, to my surprise, central locking. So what does the key do. The battery in it makes the lights flash but is that all? What informs the immobiliser and the tracker? Is it the battery key press or the physical key turning the ignition switch? Come on all you auto elec geeks put me out of my misery.

My tracker worked all the time independently. In other words it was fitted & I didn’t even know where it was & that was it. I just had to ensure the vehicle battery was charged as the tracker power came from there.
The immobiliser I believe is activated when you remove the ignition key from the ignition & it talks to the key fob when the key is inserted again. That’s my understanding but it may not be correct.

Are you sure you havnt got central locking normally if you have a key fob and pressing the button makes the indicators flash that activates the central locking unless you have a blown fuse what van us it and how old?

I can see the tracker on my phone app so I know where it is etc. but I have both an electronic key and a manual key so don't know if driving with the manual key would get me a call from the tracker monitors. Only one way to find out. Not sure about the immobiliser.

2017 Hymer dl. Definitely no central locking, though didn't realise until after buying.

We have a 2013 hymer. One ignition key has buttons, the other doesnt.
They both start the engine ok.
The fiat immobiliser needs a chip in the key to allow engine to start.
We do not have central locking, we do have the lock unlock buttons on the dash.
Never tried using the buttons on the key so do not know if they flash the indicators.
We have a seperate fob for the aftermatket alarm.

Do you have the “lock, unlock” button on you dash?
Of course we have, central locking is standard on the fiat ducato. But that all goes with an a class body and with Hymer everything is an extra, including central locking. Yes, surprises me too.

Same here, one of each key but I still don't know how the immobiliser works as I drove the vehicle home using a key that I later found didn't have a battery in. So my battery doesn't seem to affect immobilization.
Inserting a battery has allowed courtesy lights to be button operated and I hear a relay click under the bonnet but..... immobiliser???????

It is important for me to get to know how the immobiliser is triggered as it is a big security issue.

ohn Baycott has the same on his va. Plip buttons ,loghts flash but there is no central locking system fitted.

The battery doesn't work the immobiliser .That works from a transponder around the ignition barrel picking up the signal from the chip in the key when it is inserted in the ignition

That sounds logical but how was I driving around with no battery in the key?

The tracker goes into a sort of safe mode when you have the key in the ignition so it won’t tell the control centre it is being stolen. Mine had an anti lift device on the tracker too I could disable it for garage servicing but it was easier to just tell the garage to keep the key in the ignition when they lifted it. It did not matter which key I used, the remote one or the one without remote. The only time I ever got a call was when I had a van battery changed & the disconnection of the power supply alerted the control centre. I doubt your phone App will tell you where the tracker is fitted, that tends to be secret by the installation engineer although I think they do document it somewhere. I’m guessing you meant the App showed you where the vehicle was. Mine was a COBRA alarm, separate tracker with integrated gas alarm added too
