Am unsure whether anyone has had a similar issue regarding the REMIS VARIO 1 rooflight.
Mine has played up since the day we had the MH
(The rooflight still went up & down albeit assisted by supporting the dome itself)

On removing all the mechanism and dismantling it all, I found that the plastic hinge part on both sides had snapped just before the 1st pivot point.

The biggest issue was the lack security due to the locks not being connected.

I have removed the tension spring and the arms are currently sat in my vice having been glued together using araldite (I'm not holding out much hope that this will be an effective repair but my fingers are crossed)

Obtaining parts for this model is nigh on impossible. Nowhere has any spares for the winding mechanism.
(It is significantly different from the Vario 2 and from what I have seen picture wise I can't even engineer something to work.)

As a stop gap I have reassembled part of the mechanism that makes the hooks grip the rooflight itself. This has made the MH rooflight secure

Ultimately I will replace the whole rooflight and probably with a Heki variant (am indecisive at the moment so if anyone has done it and can offer comparative advice it would be appreciated.
Rusty

Your first pic sent some shivers down my spine - I've been there before🙂 After stripping-down and re-greasing the mechanism on my 900x600 Vario 1 a couple of years ago, it finally gave up the ghost last year and it is now a lid for a cold frame. The lug with the screw at the bottom of your pic no 5 had broken off and wasn't repairable. I replaced it with a Vario 2 which seems to be much better engineered. Even so, I always take the weight off the mechanism when opening the light by pushing the light open as I wind (tall enough to do so easily!)
Worth shopping around if you go for a replacement - prices vary significantly.

I'm considering a Vario 2 or a Heki....
The mech is a crap design for long term use...

Did the winder on your old one click when it got to the closed position???

Yes, it reached the stage where the gearing mechanism wouldn't transmit the movement to the hinges and no amount of winding would do it. It was the complete lack of spares in existence which forced me to replace it.

did the Vario drop straight into the existing hole in the roof?
Any issues with removal or installation???

Yes, no problem. Removing the old one and cleaning the mastic took longer than fitting the new one. Check your roof thickness as the supplied clips only go to 35mm - my roof is about 45mm thick so I had to get the extended fittings kit - about €80 extra!

It's definitely a consideration....Currently having a discussion with another Funster regarding the feasibility of a constructing a replacement part rather than buying a new rooflight...

They are an eye-watering price, certainly. The Vario 1 would have been fine if the mechanicals had been a bit sturdier. Good luck with it! (y)
