We're closing in on a new (to us van), possibly used or possibly a new one as we've got about 3 or 4 options on the model we like. One option with one dealer is to have the Remis blinds fitted to the cab (one of the other vans has these already) so we can either accept this or haggle over price. To buy the blinds cost c£400 - £450 looking on web, I doubt we'll get any more than that much off as we're also getting a couple of other goodies thrown in. So simple question is, are these blinds worth having? In my mind for is the abilty to close from inside in the dry when wet outside, and they look quite smart when closed, plus no need to carry outside blinds for privacy (but maybe for warmth). Against is they are not thermal so condensation on screen can be a problem and obviously not as warm as an external thick cover, plus they do seem a bit on fragile side.
Looking at a vid. I really don't fancy fitting them myself - fiddly in the extreme!
Any thoughts gratefully received.

In my experience, they work better on coach builds, on our "A" they are awkward to open and close and tend to crease in the corners, needing a gentle hand to stow properly, largely because of the curve in the screen.

I`ve, replaced one side which had split, It was not picked up on PDI, and collection (my fault really). So I finished up paying out 175quid for one. (Rapido). You still get condensation anyway.

They rattle like a banshee when you’re driving. Also they can be a bit fragile to open/close sometimes. But they look neat ?

We have had curtains and remis blinds. Never used the external screens as too much faf. I understand that they do have their benefits.
Blinds win hands down for us and we have a small window vac to deal with condensation.

We would not be without our Remis blinds.
Remis blinds came fitted on our previous motorhome and when we knew we were going to buy our present motorhome and it did not have Remis blinds, I bought a set before we even picked up our new to us motorhome

They help but don't do much to keep the cold out but they for sure help to keep the sun out and keep the van cooler.
We keep ours closed when our motorhome is parked up and not being use at home to stop the light and sunlight bleaching the fabric on the cab seat.
We alway close the blinds when leave the motorhome when we are away so potential thief's can't see in, plus it's another barrier a potential thief's would have to get through if they break a cab door window to try and get in, not much of one admittedly but they may think twice if they are not sure how easy they are to get past.

As for the blinds rattling when your driving, we don't get a peep out of our, nor on our previous motorhome, so maybe Apache's are not fitted correctly or we are just plain lucky.

They are pretty easy to fit and took ten minutes a side for the door blinds and couple of hours for the windscreen blinds as they take a bit more work and a bit more thinking about.

Remis blinds on all our windows and no rattles.
They are good but in cold weather you need warm external covers on the windscreen, in real cold conditions use both! We also use our curtains (on side windows) with the blinds when it’s really col!

Remus blinds on all our windows too.

They are good at keeping the interior cool in sunny weather but, as said above, not so good at keeping it warm in winter. They are great for privacy though, especially on dark nights when you have the inside of the motorhome illuminated.

Our blinds are generally silent. Just the occasional rattle if we haven’t pushed them back firmly enough into the case.

I would be negotiating the stuff to be thrown in including the blinds and then making the offer, don’t ask, don’t get.

I like our blinds, the side ones rattle every now and again when on the move but a little push and they stop, think I need the adjust the fitting.

What makes you think you would only get a little bit off if you haggle? Times are tough at the moment for dealers and you should be getting good discounts on the price shown on the windscreen. If you are not sure how have a read of the excellent article about negotiations in the latest MHF magazine.

Imho cab blinds are essentials and the ones to cab doors are much easier than the curtain type. Make sure they are included which ever way u decide. Yes they are flimsy u just need to recognize that when u are using them.
3/4 season camping will require external thermal screen covers whether u have blinds or not but they are a lot more work if u just need to shut the world out.

I think cab Remis blinds are cheap, poor quality rubbish, give me a good, thick thermal curtain and track any day. Nothing to wrong with a good curtain track and thermal curtains, you can take them down in a flash to wash or dry clean, they have good insulating qualities too.

The blinds remind me of bits of tissue paper

Hi Gary217, you got the pros and cons correct in your original post.

We visited France last year with our Silverscreen, and noticed that everybody else had Remis type blinds. In comparison, the silverscreens were a pain in the arse, to carry/store, to put on at each stop and to carry when wet. And on one windy night, they got buffeted.

I fitted them to our Peugeot Boxer a couple of weeks ago, which was reasonably easy, if a little fiddly in places. You could easily fit them in a day, if you set yourself up and put your mind to it. They look great, but not worth what they cost, and they are a bit flimsy. But, they do match the rest of the trim in the cab nicely. We haven't been anywhere yet, so I can't comment about a rattle.

Yes but silver screens

Yes but silver screens external do a totally different job to Remis blinds
Silver screens totally prevent condensation in winter, Remis blinds do nothing to prevent condensation

We have remis and a silver screen . IMO a perfect combination when cold . The blinds do rattle like a bugger - some sound proofing needed there . And they are fragile . But very effective in blanketing out the light .

They worked well for us. Very convenient. But they need a bit of care handling them, be gentle rather than brutal.

For sure, if you need a quick getaway they are perfect.

We have custom fitted vertical pleated blinds for our Hymer A class cab windows. They are less obtrusive than the Remis blinds and don't rattle at all. They are good for privacy but not so good at keeping out the light.

But I don't think that internal blinds do much to stop condensation. We are lucky because our Alde heating system has outlets on the dashboard that keep the windscreen warm in cold weather, so that limits condensation.

We also have insulated external screens, but I am afraid that I can rarely be bothered to use them, unless we are in one place for a long time, which rarely happens. It is much quicker to use a window vac just before setting off to get rid of condensation, rather than taking the the screens out, putting them up, taking them down again and repacking them (that's if they are not too wet).

Ours don't !!!
Hi.
Ours don't rattle either !:hi5:. I have one niggle though..The sun visors do not swivel around to go nearly flat with the windscreen, the top track stops this,so i find them a bit of a Faff when driving into the sun. Have had the visors off and had a poke round,so work in progress. Love them to bits,so quick to close/open,no rattles (Fitted at Wildax Elland when built(y)) Check with others about the Sun Visors..... It has been known to..." Only happen to me !!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Hi,

We've got the Remis blinds and also the Silverscreen thermal external blinds for our MH. Tbh, we weren't sure if we'd used the Silverscreen blinds but in cold weather they make a massive difference to the temperature inside the MH and it reduces / eliminates condensation.

We haven't used them in hot weather yet but have seen quite a few MH's with Silverscreen over here in Southern Spain to keep the sun out.

The Remis blinds are very quick and easy to close and especially useful for when you're leaving your MH parked up for security.

So, I think it's go for both the Remis and the Silverscreen blinds! ?

Had Remus on both mine. No rattles whatsoever, Silver screen at night, takes less than 5 minutes to fit an remove, No Condensation. With the
Alde rads under the Windows rarely get condensation.

You need a pair of these, that lift the visors slightly more, so that the visors work ok again.
