May I recommend The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allen Poe. Hardly a cheerful read but at least the rich and the poor were in the mire together.

On the Beach... Neville Shute.. Don't know how you spell it.. :(. But the b/w film is better.
I think I'd go for something more cheerful! Good book though read it years ago.

Kirsten thanks for reminding me about Lilian Beckwith will have a look for my Kindle, not seen any in the charity shops for ages, I also enjoyed the 'My Friend' series but can't remember who wrote them.

A great read: Cell by Steven King, fits in well with the 5g conspiracy theory.

Also may re-read 1984 and animal farm just to remind not to trust the powers that be

On tv repeats at the moment... BRILLIANT. The follow on programme last night was live with the author... She had me hooked. (y)

Two other excellent authors for historical fiction are Sharon Penman with her welsh trilogy and her Plantagenet series and Colleen McCullough and her 5 book masters of Rome series. Should keep you going till the end of the week. ::bigsmile:

John loves the Mantell books i found them impossible to get into, just didn't grab me at all.
Thamks Kirsten too for the kind offer did have all the Jane Duncan books, but had to cull my library, 8 tall bookcases, when I moved in with John, sadly these have now all gone.
Was offered a derisory ammount by a book buyer. I will never forget his face when i told him i would give them away first as I knew how much he sold them on for. He doubled his offer still a pittance so I sent him on his way, the local charity shops had a field day.
