Have we all got the NHS App as well? I’m not talking about the NHS COVID-19 Track and Trace, but the main NHS App…….That’s where you’ll find your proof of vaccinations.

I may be preaching to the already knowledgeable, but I’ve only just found it. (y)
Not so lucky in Wales no app

It is to save excessive costs. Originally the host state where you were resident provided the card .Problem was if you then fell ill in say France they would send the bill to Poland who would then send it to the UK. To cut costs it was agreed for all EU states that the country supplying state pension & therefore the S1 form, would be responsible for supplying the EHIC card. You could not apply for it online you had to apply to the Overseas Benefit Team in newcastle.By all acconts the card is different to what was the online EHIC in that the oap's ,when shown at a UK medical facility, shows that the holder is entitled to UK healthcare.
They are no longer available EXCEPT to people who were resident before the end of the transition period & are not yet in receipt of a state pension.

You're a 🌟- that makes perfect sense.

You should really start charging a few quid for your time and advice :giggle:

It is all stated within the Withdrawal Act(WA) .

How to get an S1 form

** Give this lot a ring .Very helpful**
NHS Overseas Healthcare Services
Telephone: +44 (0)191 218 1999
Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm
Saturday, 9am to 3pm

You will also still be entitled to an EHIC once in receipt of your UKstate pension. & no, that isn't the new GHIC one but the old one same as the rest of the EU use.

bobandjanie knows more about this & might have the definitive link.

Social security coordination

If you have residence rights under the Withdrawal Agreement, existing EU social security coordination rules will also apply to you. These mean that:

  • you only pay into one social security system at a time
  • your UK State Pension (if you get one, or when you start receiving it) will increase in line with rates in the UK (uprating)
  • social security contributions that you have paid in different EU countries can be used to help meet the entitlement conditions for certain benefits and state pensions
  • you can continue to be covered by reciprocal healthcare arrangements. This includes:
    • reciprocal healthcare cover if you, for example, get a UK State Pension or certain other benefits (using an ‘S1 form’)
    • planned health treatments (known as the ‘S2 route’)
    • necessary healthcare during a temporary stay (under the European Health Insurance Card scheme, known as an EHIC)

These social security coordination rules may also apply to other people, for example UK nationals who are frontier workers in an EU country.

Basically if you were legally resident before the end of the transition period your rights are enshrined under the WA. If not yet in receipt of a Uk state pension when you do receive it you can then claim the S1 from the overseas benefit team(OBT). This when supplied to the INSS here gives you full healthcare now paid for by the UK. Once registered you can then contact the OBT again who,now having received notice of the registered S1, will then supply the original EHIC type that the rest of the EU still use.

Aphone call to the OBT will confirm most of this.

Gus your S1 gives you the entitlement equal to the citizen of that country . In your case 100% but here in France 70% and we buy insurance ( mutuelle ) to cover the rest . Can’t comment on any other countries in Europe as don’t know what cover their citizens have .
