I don't know if this is common knowledge, but I discovered it today quite by accident. If you're about to book a crossing with DFDS on the interweb - DON'T!

I was trying to book a ferry crossing from Newhaven to Dieppe with DFDS and the website was playing silly b*****s, refusing my card. After a lot of burrowing around on their website (why is it they always do everything to stop you actually speaking to them?) I found a phone number for 'Channel bookings'. Called them this morning and was told 'Oh, this isn't the number for Newhaven - Dieppe'. Yes, but your website..... leave it, not worth arguing about.

Anyway, the lady then gave me a French number to call, which I did. Totally different reception, a delightful, pleasant French lady who spoke fluent English and actually seemed pleased that I wanted to use her company. So here's the important bit (at last, I hear you groan) - she asked me if I was over 60 and when I said yes I am, she said I get a 20% discount. 20%!! It made quite a difference to my one-way crossing with my campervan, so the potential savings for a large motorhome on a return journey would be significant.

So, the number to call is 0033 232144729.

Good info - thanks indeed - less than a month away and I will qualify.

Today I rang DFDS in France to change a booking

The lady on the phone (perfect English) asked my age and said I should, in future, book direct by phone to save 20%

She then calculated the extra charge for my change in booking and discounted it by 20%!

Some companies actually do offer real customer service(y)

Not on topic but not sure those who voted for Brexit want to go back to the Empire, that is a rather ignorant comment!

DFDS also have an English phone number which is 01273 612875 always found that number friendly and helpful and sometimes if they are new you can even get 20% of for the dog as well ,which I managed to get when I did the booking for Twin Lakes

You shouldn't believe everything you read in the papers. Go onto twitter and follow "red hot squirrel". Different perspective!

People I've spoken to...controlled borders and to rule ourselves?

Don't know what you're talking about..........what has Brexit got to do tourism?

Remainers getting desperate...............look for every 'problem' - even those that don't exist:doh::doh:

I've always got the 20% whatever vehicle I'm taking across - car, van or mh.

You always get an email recording the booking details & ref.number.
If you don't appear to have received one look in your 'junk' file, which is where it'll usually go if the sender isn't on your 'contact' list.

They only need your mobile number so they can contact you if there's a delay etc.

The discount is offered both ways or either way.

The French way is to do things on trust. Should they check & find you've told porkies they will show their displeasure.

;)

We used to use Norfolk Line back in the day.
When DFDS took over the price went up, the service went down, and the web site is awful..

We have not used them at all for three years now
