Well it's been a fun few days. Travelling below Granada towards a lovely free spot overlooking a lake /reservoir, suddenly a load bang from the engine then the engine light flashes next moment only half engine power available. We make it to our destination (down to 30km an hour up the hills). Luckily we were fully serviced with a full fridge and we always have plenty of booze on board. Contacted fiat next day as we are still in our 2 year warranty oh no your not they say.
Forward a copy of our V5 and my driving licence but the motorhome team only work mon to fri. No problem. Monday nope, we have forwarded your details but the case may not be forwarded to a manager for a few days. Fuming. Anyway after contacting fiat assistance which puts us through to rac uk they say it's ok sir I see from the dvla your vehicle was registered on the 28th march 2018 it's under warranty.
So the moral of the story ensure your vehicle is registered with fiat professional so if a problem occurs the warranty is in force. In my case I thought the dealers had done it. The problem was a loose pipe to the inter cooler fixed in 20 minutes.

Glad you got it fixed ok

Good end, Shame they couldn’t have sent someone to look before recovering

not that I would have had a clue what to look for but sounds like it could have been fixed where you were

We were maybe a bit relaxed about it as I let it go on for a few days but when the huge low loader arrived I was relived to get it sorted.

Our MoHo has just been on a pick-up truck.
Brakes failed, one rear cylinder bust!
All ok now but it’s horrible to see them on a recovery truck, same as you we had a full fridge, water and gas just topped up. Had to spend one night on garage forecourt.

Glad you are sorted. That is useful to know as there no longer appears to be an app which was where our previous van was registered. We assumed our new one was registered properly but I will now double check. I think it is as Nick has phoned Fiat Professional and it’s them that say that as it’s a PVC and converted in the UK we have 3 years warranty plus Fiat Assist despite what the sales people tell us. Same as last time.

You wouldn’t want that hassle on the side of a motorway though.

Hi Mr Porky, where did you stay near Granada, I'd like to check in out

Thanks

Pleased to hear it all worked out and nothing too serious. Your comments about warranty got me thinking. My Ducato is a similar vintage to yours - supplied 26 March 2018. Everything I’ve read about the warranty (which is a bit vague at best) suggests first service at 2 years or 30k miles to maintain warranty. I recently booked in for a first service (13k miles) only to be told by the Fiat Dealer that it should be serviced annually irrespective of mileage. Obviously if that’s correct my warranty would now be invalid. Van was supplied new to European rather than U.K. market. Is he correct?

We had the inter cooler / throttle body pipe clips changed due to a Fiat recall. Ours is a late 2018 Ducato. Did you get the recall?

Our Fiat Pro dealer told me if your mileage is below 10k km a year, then servicing should be annually, other wise stick to the 2 year service.

Nope, need to check that. Thanks.

I think this is the issue as we were not on the system we got no recalls.

Thanks, that puts me in the clear, but I’m amazed there’s nothing definitive out there.

Our Fiat Pro dealer just told us that we only need servicing every two years or 45,000 km, whichever occurs first. He told us that he has recommended to another motorhome owner, a friend of ours, that he doesn't need annual services with the low kms he's covering.

the information I received was the same, we got a service at 25k miles. Because of monopoly laws in the uk you don’t have to use fiat professional , although this would have flagged up our lack of registration and subsequent recal notices If we had used a main dealer

Annual servicing for low mileage vehicles is only advisory not compulsory.
We have always imported our vans so I take the V5 to a Fiat dealer to get it on the system otherwise Fiat UK are unaware of it.
