Hi all

My double fold-out Omni-step on the main hab door has finally given up the ghost (looks like was bodged up several times before we had the van) and I need to replace the whole unit now

My question really is about quality. I always thought the steps were always flimsy and not really man-enough for the job (confirmed/multiplied by the unreliable slideout single omni steps on the cab doors), so are there better replacements I should be considering before doing a like for like swap out please?
Thanks
Steve

Fitted the Thule slide out to my van and seems to be okay.

Thule now own/make the Omnistor brand, so guess in principle its the same thing now?
Would I be right to say you would buy another one if called for?

Thule as said is the same but it is the best of the bunch. Give the Italian Project 2000 steps a wide birth.

Thanks Mikeco

Yes I would buy the same one, it’s been in around 4 years now.

Not much choice when it come to fold out steps.

Surely you will replace your duff original step with the same make and model if possible then the mountings and wiring will be the same.

Lipert Kwikee . US maker , last for years . not cheap!

I think you will be proved very right in the end, but couldn't let the opportunity go to see if I could do better...:):):)

Funny you should say that Lenny, as we had those on our last van (Laika), and they seemed so much more sturdy than the Omni ones we have now.
I'm guessing from your comment that they are prone to electrical issues being Italian??

Not problem with the electrics, crap mecanical desgin, plastic operating arms held onto the nylon gear with a tiny little self tapper. My drivers door step is one, dealer sorted it twice and I sorted it out properly last week doubt if it will go wrong again - famous last words.

Thanks Lenny... I guess that's what I was afraid of, my experience of steps are on vans from the 2000-2010 period so not good for choosing modern ones..
