We get our Mo Ho tomorrow, whoop whoop. At Vanbitz to get stuff done. Does anyone have any recommendations for things to do for the day while the van is worked on? (No car so walk, bus or taxi)

It’s not a bad stroll into town, there’s plenty of shortcuts and snickets, take your time and most importantly whatever you do DO NOT come back early and venture into the shop unless you don’t give into temptation easily :whistle2: :whistle2:

Drink Eddie’s free beverages from the machine, have a look around the shop, steal his free wi-fi and as a last resort if you have a spare couple of hours, have a chat with Eddie (only joking Eddie; it is always interesting😉)

Same as DuxDeluxe at post 6 but if there is an Orange Adria parked up you may even see the ’Holy Grail‘ Jedi Master himself with Chewbacca glide by silently by, I am of course referring to Jim and his lovely Dog 😘

Stay with your van and watch every move they make. Keep asking questions and get Eddie over regularly to explain what they are doing. They will remember you.😆
That’s what Mr Nedge would love to do - he’s an electrical fella. Mrs Nedge likes the sound of charity shops and finding an air conditioned cafe!

We had a good walk, leaving the site at SE corner onto footpath over to Taunton racecourse then looped south using footpaths and minor roads. Can even link that into visit to town via footbridge over motorway - allowed us to fill the day but you need to like walking and you need a map.

For those not great at walking, taxi to/from town centre was dead easy and not so expensive.

We went by taxi and had a wander round the town, then breakfast in one of the two JD Whetherspoons. The town as others say is full of charity shops and 'characters '. I would of liked to of looked round Somerset Cricket ground but we didn't have time.

The Museum of Somerset is virtually in the town centre, interesting and free. (y)

The impressive historic and posh Castle Hotel has a rather nice bistro which is not outrageously expensive, but the food is good. Can eat in the bar also. Oh and it is next door to the museum. Well worth clicking the link if only to view all the beautiful wisteria on the outside of the building. ;)

A two mile walk into the centre of town in this heat and another two miles back. Good luck with that.
It was this hot when we was there and walked back in this heat, it all depends how tight you are, and being from Yorkshire I’m just a bit careful with the pennies😉👍

Great question....I often ask myself the same when my car goes in for service...3 hours to kill.....however it was a bigger problem when we broke down in Norway and had 5 days to kill waiting for parts to arrive...and the weather wasn't too kind either...🥴

Quite a lot of the walk is under trees, I did it (with the dog) in the first week in July when it was pretty hot, and no problems as the shade made it comfortable. Similarly in Vivary Park, I found plenty of shelter and as a bonus, the ice cream kiosk does some fab ice creams (🐶 had one too ).

Take bikes. There are great cycle routes around the area. Really nice (flat too) ride along the canal to Bridgewater with a very fine tea /cake establishment for a shady rest along the way

Quiite a nice 90% traffic free walk into towm past the college. Dont think a Taxi would be too expensive The towns small but q. nice for a wander, drink, coffee. Nice park for a posh picnic with M&S snacks as a treat. Oh and the Pole dancing club opens at 1.
PS. One of my recommendations isnt true
PPS. Yes you spotted it. Some of the M&S snacks arent upto much.

If you’re walking go over the motorway bridge from Van bitz and almost immediately on left is the cycle / path as someone said quite shaded ( we had bikes). or get the lift or taxi in this heat. When in there if you like a walk the canal is lovely to walk along. On travelling to Van bitz Don’t get sat naved like we did as it look us down the narrowest lane imaginable that comes up behind Van bitz it was a nightmare. Follow their instructions, you will know if your are going the best way if your route takes you over the motorway bridge which is just prior to their entrance. I wouldn’t wish anyone along the little lane that we got ourselves caught in as nothing would have got by us . Good luck , you will have a great job don.
