Getting there!
Hi All. We're off to Germany soon with nothing set in stone. We've got two weeks and would like to end up around Berchesgarden. First night planned for Koblenz then maybe Lindau. I'd sort of like to follow loosely the route of the Alpinestrasse but would appreciate any recommendations, must do bits or bits to miss out. For example, should we maybe hack south east from Koblenz or head south to Lindau to the start of the Alpinestrasse? Is Fussen a must see over Bad Tolz? That type of thing. We did Garmisch last year so could miss that bit out.

I know it seems quite a big tour for a fortnight but we don't mind putting in a couple of longish days getting down that way and a couple more on the return.
It's also our first time with a motorhome abroad!! but it's something we gotta have a crack at. We'd love to hear some experiences from the Funster Massive!!:thumb:

Thanks in advance.

Our fourth glorious year!
We stayed at a site a couple of K north of Berchtesgarten last May.Can ' t recall the name but I am sure an internet search would bring it up.Staggering views, bus at the end of the road into Salzburg for peanuts and nice walk into Berchtesgarten by a path by the river.:thumb:

just start with things in mind dont race . you dont have to do it all . just do what feels right .
you could spend most of the time getting to koblenz .cochem on some sundays is like a motor bike show they come from miles around .
there is no points for not seeing things . just relax and have fun .

One thing we found on our trip was that lots of shops and restaurants still wanted payment in 'cash' . You'll have a great trip, the Mosel was really lovely.

I echo this. The shop at Neuswanstein castle wanted cash. The other shops wanted cash. The Euronics electrical goods shop would not take a card for the camera card reader we
bought. The shop assistant was most embarrased and apologised. Also had problems getting cash out of the ATM.
WE went tinto a bank and could not understand why our various Visa and Mastercards logos did not figure on the screen. Eventually we found a clerk who said we have no dealings with those companies!! Go figure!
This was in Heidelburg a main tourist town!
Eventually we found a little bank which did the trick.
This cash demand put us off Germany a bit. Take enough cash with you to cover sites, meals, shopping and souvenirs/presents.

Agree with most of this but did notice that if an ATM did operate with a debit/credit card it was MasterCard rather than Visa in the main.
Didn't have too much problem with buying fuel and the like with a card but that is easier in the north than the south.

As said, take plenty of cash with you and split it into smaller amounts kept in different places, lack of retail outlets taking cards shouldn't put you off visiting such an enjoyable country to visit.

If beautiful medieval towns are your thing then the Romantiche strasse is a must . Lindau and Konstanze are also well worth a visit . If you have bikes there is a great path round Lake Konstanze .
