Hi everyone!

My daughter & her wife have a Vauxhall Vivaro PVC and they’ve decided to remodel it a bit inside. She’s bought a https://www.waecofridges.co.uk/crp40.htm and is asking me about an 800w electric hob/grill that she wants to run on an inverter off the 100ah leisure battery. What size inverter would she need if she went down this route? How long would she be able to cook on it before the battery went flat? She’s got a 100w solar panel on the roof. I’ve suggested she doesn’t bother with the electric hob and go for a gas one instead. If you use a gas hob please recommend one! What thoughts people? Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

Russ

I would go for something like this.

As above, go for gas.

Electricty for cooking is not going to work off hookup.
What sort of cooking do they want to do and where(wild)?
Single burner with disposable gas cartridges £10 plus the gas.
Camping stove as above.
Biultin hob.

Keep your advice coming please!!

Might work if you put 400a/h of Lithium batteries and 600 watts of solar on the roof, tell the 4000 quid would be better spent learning how to cook on a gas hob.

There is a vango induction 800w very efficient but, not with a 100ah battery and 100w solar. With lead acid will be needed at least 400ah battery and a 1000w inverter. With Lithium 200ah; Solar as much as the roof can hold, 4-500w. On vivaro the roof is small even on long wheel base. It will have to be gas or EHU.

most camping stoves are not for use in a van you really need a hob most vans that size use one combined with the sink and slimline

assuming the have a rock and roll bed this is virtually the only size that allows the bed to extend in front of the units the waeco fridge has to go behind drivers seat as its deeper than the space needed for the bed

it should be hard piped and you need some ventilation in such a small space

Using a battery for anything other than lighting or electronics is likely to kill it in no time at all. Gas is much more effective. = Much more energy in terms of weight and space. Only think of electricity for cooking when connected to EHU.

We have a PVC with 2x85Ah batteries and 150w of solar and this adequate for the fridge, TV and all the auxiliary stuff for about a week off grid but think we would be lucky to manage 24hrs if we had an electric hob.

Too late now as they've already bought the fridge but if they are keen cooks a lower fridge with an oven/grill hob above it works well for us in our PVC.

This photo gives a completely wrong impression of our drinking habits :) but it shows the SMEV cooker above the fridge. The hob is under the lift up cover - buried under the wine.
