The camera in our Campscout has died. It went very foggy and now says no signal. Not sure make/model.
What would you recommend we replace it with and who replaces them (we are SW Scotland).
Thanks

Thanks, that is useful.

Does anyone know if we can re-use existing cabling or if we would need it re-cabling. Also any experience of wireless units?

Thanks in advance.

I would strongly recommend a twin lens camera, Whether fitted monitor on the exhisting rear view mirror or seperate monitor. Seeing to reverse or checking vehicles behind when on roundabouts at home or abroad or the security to your rear is invaluable.

I had the Camos Jewel Camera from Road Pro fitted to my m/h, and I am extremely happy with it. It doubles as a rear view / reversing camera. You can purchase the camera and fitting kit, (unfortunately they do not come cheap), if you are able to fit it yourself. Road Pro have a fitting service, but Daventry is a long way from your base. You could of course combine it with a tour of the area if you have the time. Road Pro allowed me to stay overnight at their premises, with hook up. Their service was excellent.

I replaced twin lens camera yesterday. Was a 4 pin connection straight to existing monitor on my rear view mirror. It was on eBay £39.89 ( Inc postage) if it is same as yours? See stealaways post. I have tips for you if it is?

Our rear view camera is Kaput, no signal, local bod can't find where the power lead to the camera is, we have found a connector for the mirror mounted screen. Think trying to route a new wire from camera to monitor would be a nightmare.

Thanks folks. This was an old post, resurrected today.
We’re booked into Rhino Installs in May and having a twin lens reversing camera fitted as well as a few other jobs.

I'm hoping to fit one of these when my new MH arrives. A very neat, unobtrusive camera. Yes, expensive but you only have to pay it once!

Although the routing of rear view cameras looks daunting, over the years messing about with MH's I have discovered that most (if not all) vans have built in routes for cables, of which there can be many. Certainly worth more than a cursory glance. Some fitters allow about 1 hour to fit, so I was told last time I enquired, which may of course depend on the model.
The power on mine comes from behind the dash on a switched circuit. Good luck Sue xx

Looks like ours was factory fitted during construction and wiring is well hidden, would need to remove cupboards and possible interior ceiling to access. The chap who comes to us spent almost 2hours and couldn't find the wiring, neither could the local car place who also does motorhomes, will see if anyone can have a look at Peterborough, but really should ask on the Laika face bool page Camper UK quoted £1300 robbing sods or they don't want the job.

Or they know what's involved!

Are cable runs not through plastic conduits?

If not, why not?

If not, are they fit for purpose? Not, in my book.
May well be in fact am sure they will be as everything visible is, just looks like wiring for camera has been put in before the ceiling was fitted, suppose there is a possibility it is powered by a live feed from one of the rear internal lights, but as it isn't working pulling the fuses wont help. Waiting for a response from someone recommended by a dealer, as he hasn't got back to us think it may be a mare of a job.

You still need to power it somehow unless you want to use a battery one with all the complication of keeping the battery charged. So still need a wire!

could you not use the cigarette lighter power?
Possibly but the camera is on the outside so you have to get a wire from inside to outside for power, so why not a wired camera?

I have a wireless one too and it's suspension bridges that I get the interference from.

I have fitted this wireless one that works really well.

Amazon product

But it’s not completely wireless so you still need to get a wire to it to power it! Admittedly you don’t have to thread wires to the front of the van if you can get power from the back of the vehicle.

It’s the transmission that is wireless. I was able to pick up a feed close by.

since 2014!
Perhaps worth thinking about a twin camera? We have fitted such a device to our motorhome, so it provides a ‘rear mirror view’ for when driving, and a ‘bumper view’ for when parking or moving close to other objects, at the flick of a switch!

I just watched the video on that website and it does look impressive. But when he was driving forward, the images on the monitor were reversed so it looked like everyone was driving on the right hand side of the road. Does that happen with yours?

I second this option. Our Adria came with a Campos single lens camera aligned for reversing with a dash mount monitor, While ok for that purpose the boss said she would prefer of we could see what was behind us, so at the Harrogate show the other week, I bought a twin lens option with mirror mounted screen. Unfortunately it didn’t use existing wiring, bit dissapointed with that however at nearly £200 cheaper than the Campos version I can live with that. Currently on a 2 week tour of Northern Ireland and have to say best update to the van yet, so much safer and with monitor on useless rear view mirror, a more natural viewpoint for glancing at. I did all the work myself so no other costs involved. The man at the stall knew his stuff and was very helpful too
