MH
Compass 185
I have a Compass 185 motorhome (Peugeot boxer) with a factory fitted rear view camera that has stopped working. I say stopped, it works now and again although I could not get it to work today! It is now more often not working!!
When it is not working there is just a blue screen a couple of time I have a a bad ghost image which had a very faint red tinge. And once my wife slammed the passenger door and the camera came on, but that does not work now!
I presume it must be a bad connection somewhere, but where?
There is a 6 pin plug by the monitor, I have tried disconnecting, reconnecting several times. But I cannot find any other connections, there must be at lease one. I have had the cover off the fuse box and I can see what looks like a video cable running down the side of the chassis.
Has anyone any idea where I might need to look for the connections?
Any instructions on how to remove the lower panel under the steering wheel on a Peugeot boxer (2010) van/MH? This maybe give me better access to look for the connectors under the dash.
Any other ideas, advice, help, would be appreciated?
Thank you

Loose connection, take a look at back of camera the cables to connector may be around 12 to 15 ins long You may have to pull out the rubber grommet which you may have to protect wires going into body panel.

Thanks for the suggestion. At the moment I cannot get the camera out, I have removed the 3 screws, but it is either a very tight fit or has had sealant applied to it as well. I can see no sign of the cables inside they must go along the roof lining.

I don't really want to force it as the MH is less than 2 years old and still under warranty, probably not the camera though!

I have attached a picture of the camera, just in case anyone knows any more information.

Hi Kevangibbings
Surely if only 2 years old and still under warranty, it's worth a call to your dealer to check if they can check/resolve the issue?
Might be less painful than trying to trace cabling (I know from experience, as am just about to replace my own reversing camera after it went pop!).

Cheers,

Rich.

I will get the dealer to take a look, but I don't think it will still be covered under warranty. Not sure what other companies are like but Compass/Hymer seem to exclude quite a lot of items after the first year.

I just thought if it was a simple issue then I might just be able to solve myself. Also they cannot look at it until the end of Sept and we are going away next week.

Might just have to be patient and hope it is covered, if not will have to raid the piggy bank!

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Once the three screws are removed the unit will pull off. Its secured in place with clear silicone sealant there is also a large diameter washer..
The camera is attached with a coiled up cable that is long enough to pull out to check the connection tion which is a push fit with a threaded metallic ferule around it to hold it in place..Just give this a turn to make sure its tight.
I doubt it's this connection though as it is among way from the slammed door. There is probably a connection somewhere else near the door, that requires attention as it's a long cable .
I have a similar set up on my Eldiss but never had a blank blue screen. Mine started to ghost so bought a new camera of e bay £26, but when I took the old one off and cleaned the lens it cured the problem so now have a spare. (y)
