Just a thought if you have air assist rear suspension, is there any need to change tired rear springs

They should cope ok they did on an old defender I ran(abused) for a while .

I would say yes. Say your rear axle is running at 2000kg. If you add air assist to upgrade you usually get an extra 200kg. So I assume their capacity is 200kg plus safety margin.
If you have tired springs that only support ,say, 1500kg you are then asking the air assist to support 500kg, way past the usual 200kg.
Will depend on how tired your existing springs are and how much you load them. Or how longs a bit of string.....

How tired are the springs? I'm guessing you're looking at air-assist as an alternative to new springs?

On a lot of vans the springs rest on or close to the "bump stops" which in fact are not bump stops at all and give with any load on them. A few MoT testers have failed vans because of that misunderstanding.

That said I think I would be looking at replacing the springs if that were my van as it certainly wasn't like that when I bought it. I fitted air-assist some years ago and it noticeably improved the handling and the van still sits slightly nose down at rest.

Thanks for your help.
