Looking for a new one

The missus is convinced that she needs both a rear lounge AND a decent sized garage.

Apart from the Dethleffs Alpa models (as seen here https://www.dethleffs.co.uk/motorhomes/alpa/) do any of you knowledgeable funsters know of any other models with a similar layout? Preferably not six figures to buy either.

Thanks :-)

How about a Frankia from SMC in Newark. If we were to purchase anything then it would be this model - and a chunk under £100K too.

Regards,

Andrew

There are quite a few models available. I think you would struggle to put a scooter in all the ones Ive seen because they have a box where your feet go in the middle seat that intrudes into the garage space, you can clearly see it to the upper right on the Frankia above.

While some of them can have a lovely kitchen/diner/lounge area ( the Phoenix is particularly attractive IMHO) the rest of the layout becomes a bit clumsy, you have a long climb into it to be confronted by the loo door and then a disjointed not quite cab/not quite lounge at the front.

Horses for courses though.

Change the Mrs mate... she's wrong :sneaky::sneaky::D2

Seriously, the frankia mentioned above is what I was going to recommend, but a couple I know who had it hated it.

Hymer Duomobile costs a packet though(y)(y)(y)

There are a few models about, some Pilotes, for example that don't have the half dinette at the front so you have quite a decent front lounge and therefore room for a large garage.:)

Deeply confused. Cant see how it is possible with a garage for a scooter and a rear lounge. We can hardly sit up in our bed.

Must be possible with all the options offered

Thanks for your suggestions. Looks like this sort of layout is generally only available on the higher end stuff then?

I wouldn't be interested in putting a scooter in a garage anyway. It's more for storage for dog stuff and motorcycle gear. I'd tow a motorbike on a small trailer.

Maybe she can have what she desires in a few years time when these things have depreciated a bit.

Rapido 8094df
Rear lounge small garage about 80k, got one on order or rollerteam 746 my current van at half that!

It was an idea from last year Liz - it's just the Summit for this year (I think, lol :D:D)

We hired a coach built Trailer Team last year, cant remember the actual model that had a rear lounge with a garage underneath. although a reasonable size and easily take folding bikes but not a full size bike.

New Hymer B534 has a rear lounge with a section that raises to give a garage underneath. I think the raising bit may be an extra because not every 534 has it.

Lovely van we saw one at the Peterborough show but a bit expensive for us.
The one in the first link is the DL (Dynamic Line) discontinued last year, a fair bit cheaper than the ordinary B class Duomobil. Garage is full height for half the width, no rising bits, they claim you can get a scooter in. A bit optimistic me thinks.
IMO rear lounges compromise storage space too much and you are limited to the drop down bed.

An A class with a rear lounge and garage is the holy grail for us....but there really isn't anything out there unless you can spend over 100k :(

If we had the money then we'd buy a Carthago Liner for Two - great kitchen and lounge and you can still fit bikes in the garage (though not sure about a scooter), we much preferred it over the Hymer Duomobil.

As well as Dethleffs, Frankia has quite a few....all the ones which end in "Plus" (I680 Plus, I740 Plus, I790 Plus, I840 Plus) - some of them you might be able to fit bikes in the garage area, others definitely not.

Of the models that have a small garage (too small for bikes) our favourite by far is still the Rapido 8094dF/9094dF which to us combined the best storage with lounge-ability. We also looked at the Pilote G650U (don't like the way the drop down bed encroaches on the doorway when stowed away - kept bumping my head on it), the Mobilvetta K-Yacht 80 (the rear drop-down bed limits the headroom in the lounge) and the Rollerteam Pegaso 745 (can't remember why we didn't like this one).

Are they rear lounge?

Martin

None of them are rear lounge above a decent sized garage.

It doesn't help me really. Looks like a trader has just jumped on my thread to advertise a load of irrelevant vans for sale.

Agree not suitable for you.
@Johns_Cross_Motorhomes are Funster trade members & give a lot of good advice, also discounts on accessories to Funsters.

Peter isn't just a 'trader', as mentioned above, he's very good on helping people on here and I assume was just offering an alternative of MHs with good front lounges and rear beds with garage that is around the price you want to pay. As others on here have said it might not be possible to get what you want for what you're wiling to pay, so Peter has just shown you other options to consider.

Totally agree

I have seen Peter be helpful on various forums over the years.

He does not need to push his company, because forum members do it for him, because of good service from his team.

We have the Frankia A680Plus, fixed full size twin beds, rear U shaped lounge, garage underneath holding 2 ebikes in 7m. So far perfect for 2 people.

Drawbacks limited kitchen worktop we have a proper oven grill though, so we use the fixed lounge table; garage is a bit height restricted, we get 2 non folding 26" ebikes in but have to remove the front wheel; van is 3.2m tall which is a bit of a pain on some sites.

Other van makes that we looked at are:- Dethleffs Alpa, Concorde Charisma, Hymer Duomobile. Concorde was pricey:eek: and very big, Hymer was A Class (so no no), Dethleffs was good but we preferred the Frankia build :)

You have missed the Cathargo liner for two, also pricey.
