Rear lounge or fixed bed (2 Viewers)

I’m sure this has probably been asked countless number of times but I can’t find anything on the forum. We are looking at a two berth around 6. 5 m length home. Mostly for use in the UK but possibly two weeks in Europe. We don’t want an overcab one.

Just wondered what people’s views were on rear lounge v fixed French bed?

We have had a Vw camper for 15 years so are used to lack of space and making the bed up!

We wouldn't even consider a van without a fixed bed, who wants the hassle of making a bed up every night then sleeping a miss match of lumpy cushions.
Our first van had a French bed, not a bad layout but limits storage space, our last two vans have had single beds at the rear that gives a nice big garage and a front drop down double bed. A Class vans give the best compromise when it comes to beds and storage.

Never have a problem making our 2 singles up,,,takes two minutes to make and three in a morning.Not much longer than making a normal bed when you get up.No uneven cushions as they are both made up with one mattress each..We are all different.BUSBY.

The problem is most vans only have 2

It must depend on how you use the van, we use ours a lot as a day van and a big space to lounge is essential. Making up the bed takes just a couple of minutes, there are no lumpy cushions if you use memory foam toppers, it is huge and you can sleep in any direction, fore and aft, side to side as you wish. We also have a massive dressing area with toilet and full size shower.
The ideal layout for us would be a huge front lounge plus a proper sized bathroom, full kitchen and fixed bed over a garage, as far as I can see no such van exists! Until then I am happy to spend 5 minutes out of 24 hours to pull out to slides to make a bed.

Fixed island bed the best layout we found over years,
especially if away for long trips.

The experience of around 50 years of tenting and motorhoming has taught me to make up the bed before going to the pub or socialising onsite with other campers.
I was discovered one morning by my chums at a biker's' camp slumped fully clothed in my motorhome's tiny bathroom.

We hired a Pilote with a fixed French bed before we bought our first PVC. I had to sleep on the longer side or my feet hung off the end, I am 6ft long.
The Rienza we have now is a rear lounge. For the time it takes to make the bed we don’t think the extra space taken up by a fixed bed would be worth it.
Also in our case we wanted a Ford base so it limited our choice a little.

My preference is for a rear lounge - but that's because I want more of a day van, than a fixed place to sleep - to be honest if we go further than a day trip I'd probably use a mixture of van and B&B.
