Help,my rear french bed was stuck in the open position,no amount of pushing etc would pull it down.I have removed the gas struts and if i slam them to the ground and push they will depress ,put them back under bed and they wont budge, any ideas.

Did the bed 'close' after the struts had been removed?

Is the m/h new to you? Has it worked o.k. before?
I'm not familiar with your m/h but it sounds like you need to release some type of locking device.
You don't say what year or whether it's a manual or electrically operated bed.
Here's the Bailey manual for current models:

In the manual it mentions a 'key', limit switches and press button release on pages 139 et sub.

The bed has been fine for the last 14 months,(mechanical)I had my rooflight above it changed last week and the bed was in the open position, did the fitter push against it causing the struts to bend,?Why would they compress manually though, albeit with a considerable amount of pressure

Sorry I can't really add much but maybe by standing on the bed the fitter has damaged the struts. A visual examination with them extended should show if they are bent. Presumably the bed release button presses inward o.k. as you have worked the bed without the struts.
The struts will have a firm action but how firm isn't easy to describe. If the bed opens and closes without the struts in place it would seem that they are the problem.
Perhaps someone with the same bed can help.

Has the fixing of the strut to the bed moved. This can alter the angle and make it difficult for the struts to close.
The struts may also be slightly bent.
I would look at replacing the struts, you can get them direct from SGS and they are not too expensive but you do need to check the fixing positions.

Failing struts tend to get weaker, not stiffer and given the weight they have to support of a double bed, I'd be surprised if you can compress a bed strut by a couple of millimetres even if you were leaning your full body weight on one against the floor ? (Not recommended tho in case it turns you into a human kebab ! )
I'd go (as mentioned previously) with checking the mounting points/frame for alignment, (a tape measure stretched between the two might be sufficient and will highlight if things have become skewed ?)

It looks like there is some confusion. The OP is having trouble with a French bed that hinges up on one side to access storage. It’s not a drop down or electric bed.

I have the parts number but nothing matches on amazon etc,or am I being thick,?

I found this in under 30 secs when I Googled the part number.
Have a word with these folk who seem to be specialists and use that part number format ........

I got my replacements from SGS as mentioned above.
Very helpful if you want to talk to them, they seem to know the motorhome market as well.
