Swearing, on Ann's birthday, whatever next. Really sad reading Terry apart from you both being unscathed that is.

Now, can I do anything? do you need to borrow a car, would you like me to come fetch you both, can I offer you Free-camping inc EHU, both Black and grey waste disposal and fresh water. PM me if I can do anything; give Ann our best. ( we owe it to our old folk to help them across roads and the like! )

Thanks for the kind offer , Paul & Jackie,
But we currently don't need anything , we have another set of wheels ( car) , and won't be using moho .
Just need the insurance company toget things sorted ASAP.
Thanks again
Terry & Ann

I feel your pain and agree with all comments about write off and medical checks. As has been said you also need to try and factor in the additional costs of ferries to view prospective replacements. Fortunately no one hurt and 'it gives you something to tell the (great) grandchildren!

And please don’t be impressed that they have asked their lawyers to call you in a week or whatever. You choose your own lawyer.

I found the insurer's lawyer to be fantastic after my accident (not my fault). It did take 4 years to settle because of the injury assessment. The lawyer was appointed by the insurer but was from a large and well respected company.

Not sure when that was but at one time there was a Kick back to the insurer. ( pre July 13)

Don’t know what the arrangements are these days but you might reasonably ask why one firm would be recommended by an insurer?

Not my business anyway so I don’t care, just telling the OP he can choose his own lawyer.

many many years! since I was a kid
from experience of viewing and buying similar vehicles that is certainly a write off. on a positive note the claim is obviously fault of the other driver, payout should be quick. remember to strip out any extras and accessories from your van before it is collected, tvs etc included

then tomorrow start a search to value your van and find a replacement. keep a record of all costs to claim back

It was in 2012 and I was given a choice of law firms by the insurer (Scotland if that makes a difference).

Sorry to hear about that and glad you are both ok.

You need to be really careful with how the insurers deal with your van. Don’t trust the insurers or their assessors. They will have self interest at heart rather than your best interests .

And please don’t be impressed that they have asked their lawyers to call you in a week or whatever. You choose your own lawyer.

Yes, too right Chris, they are a slippery bunch of wotsits.

If the OP is not happy with the initial verdict of the insurance company then I would recommend that he employs his own vehicle assessment.

If it's commissioned using a verified IAEA Assessor then it is submissable in a court of law. We did this once and it was the best few hundred quid we've ever spent.

Bad luck Terry and Ann, but very pleased you are not injured. Ann will have to have a second birthday as obviously this one won't count.

I hope it all gets settled quickly and you can get on with finding your next van.

Way back in this thread (Oh! by the way, Sorry to read of your misfortune) I think you stated that the Insurance Co. will be ringing you in a few days to confirm there has been no delay in whiplash injuries etc.

Can I inform you that such injuries may take weeks or even months to develop into symptoms.

Do not write off your state of health within such a short time frame without adding the codicil that you may return to litigation should you find yourself suffering in the future.

With buckled area on the rear, the only proper way would be to have it rebuilt by the factory , If they can do that, new body panels and everything else that was still OK transferred to the ne body. That would cost a lot but a LOT better than trying to repair the shell. Still reckon to get and independent assessor on the job.

That's such an awful thing to happen and I'm pleased you were not seriously injured but I suspect it will kick in later so don't say you are both hunky-dory to the lawyers when they ring just in case. As for the MH it's a write-off for sure as I can't see how it can be safely or economically repaired structurally to put it back to how it should be and even if there was a slim chance it could it would seriously affect the value of it in the future, so insist on it being written off as you wouldn't feel 'safe' using it.

Go through it with a fine tooth come to make sure you remove everything that you or anyone else added to it as once it's written-off you won't be able to retrieve anything especially as they're likely to take it away before they make their final decision. It might also be worth contacting an independent firm of lawyers (make sure they don't charge YOU a fee if they 'win' a claim!) to see how you stand before the ones contacted by your insurers contact you, so you know what you're likely to be able to claim for.

Sorry to hear about this @FIDGET - I hope it resolves itself sooner rather than later. Difficult to see how it wouldn't be a write-off given that a simple leaky roof seal cost over 10% of our first MH's sale price to fix under warranty.

If you should choose to replace with a later model 484 please feel free to pick my brains - we've got one.

Horrible thing to happen. When we were full timing it di occasionally cross our minds that something like this could happen and we'd be homeless. Luckily nothing happened and we never worried about it much.
I do hope it all gets sorted out quickly.

Can I ask that you keep us updated on your progress on this. I am really hoping you get an extremely fast settlement and can find a replacement asap. Would love to hear that you are back on the road within weeks rather than months (y).

Wishing you the best of luck on this.

I second that. It was 4 years before there was a settlement reached after the accident I was involved with because we needed to be absolutely sure of the long term implications of the injuries. There is a time limit on claiming so a GOOD specialist lawyer is vital. Although I used one from my insurance company list I have never regretted it (not saying that is the case for you) and the company I did choose made it clear right from the start and in writing that they would be paid by the insurance company, claim back costs from the at fault party but that they were working for me. the amount I received was much more than I expected but then the injuries were also worse than at first apparent (damage to the spinal vertebrae - adrenaline dulls pain to start with so you can continue to function until you can't ....) It was the police officer attending that insisted I went for a check up right away so I had all the medical evidence.

I've had a good look at your Photos Terry and have to agree. Not so much for unsafe repair more for uneconomical repair.

Write off. Tell em Griff said so, that'll clinch it.

Will do Paul , as too your previous offer , I've been thinking , perhaps I could borrow YOUR moho till my insurance is sorted !!!!

(only joking )

Take out you gassit , spare hab battery, GPS, satellite, in fact EVERYTHING that you fitted. If it goes, it all goes with it, leave NOTHING left in it. Even if it goes for repair all these things are vunlnerable to light fingers. Even suck out the diesel if it has enough in it. all these are of value to YOU.
