Asking for a friendšŸ˜‰

Who has seen a tag axle Fiat with Goldschmidt rear air only, it was ordered with full air and some how a mistake was made in the ordering process and itā€™s being built with rear air onlyā€¦..

Just wondering if it will actually make a big difference or not ? I can see that it wouldnā€™t be possible to lower the front of the van but overall i suppose the benefit when driving is probably much from the rear axle being on air ?

Dealer reckons it could have front air fitted but needs a trip back to the factory to do so, also a possibility.

What do ya reckonā€¦.

We have full air on our sonic tag, the ride is a lot better than our previous ducato on std suspension

Can i ask if you use the lowering or highering feature at all

Ok itā€™s not a tag but my Carthago has rear air only (which is great btw) and on the front it has HD VB springs fitted, now whilst itā€™s not air, itā€™s perfectly acceptable and much better than the OE front springs, could be an option for your friendšŸ˜‰ and as a bonus it levels the front end sag toošŸ‘

Thanks and good tip, i think we have similar friends some timesšŸ˜‚

We have a tag and installed full air (VB and levelling) after a year with just springs. Ride and handling is vastly improved, especially in high winds, roundabout/corners and with truck passing.

We have used the lowering and heightening quite a few times - on off ferry / when towing trailer up steep inclines / declines and also on uneven ground - works a treat, so far have always managed to stop it bottoming out - hope that continues

Thanks, thatā€™s really good info. Iā€™m sure itā€™s manageable with rear only but certainly sounds like having full air is the right solution. I like the fact (sorry my friend likes the fact) that the air suspension is synched with the hydraulic jacks, ie one press and van lowers, then jacks level and support.

And with full air your ride height is always level so no front sag our previous tag had rear air only with front uprated VB springs but was still nose down.

Noticed on the Goldschmitt it has a sport mode (lower ride height) for when on the motorway i assume:giggle:

I seem to remember a while since that air suspension could not be fitted to a tag axle moho, or did I dream it?

Itā€™s an option on many new tag axles today, full air and levelling offered from Goldschmitt and Alko

Our tag camper had full air , go full air as said before so many advantages over not having it even if it has to go back

we have rear air assist on our Frankia tag, it's a Gliderite system and we are pretty pleased with it...gives a maximum of around 3in lift which we use when there is any possibility of grounding but it also helps in day to day driving,,,better drive..no wallowing around corners and no swaying when overtaken by, or overtaking HGV's on the motorway...also helps when in strong crosswinds too. plus it also gives a degree of levelling when parked up on uneven ground... yes i would have loved full air all round but the cost is a bit prohibitive to say the least.

I canā€™t comment on MH air setups but Iā€™ve driven ambulances with rear air ever since they mass produced them in the early 90ā€™s. Covering over 100k+miles a year they take some stick, they ā€œwereā€ very unreliable but have improved over the years. The ride can sometimes be a lottery and you takes yer pick! But all in all an improvement over springs. Only our HART, equipment and communications vehicles have tag axles which are mainly on springs and like house bricks!

I have a Hymer B 878 SL Tag Axle ~2018, and we kept bottoming out in the rear.
I bought it new and that was the only complain I had.

Took the MH back to the Hymer dealer (where we bought it) a year later and they recommended only getting the rear done. (Goldschmidt)

Was told that if there is a problem with "Full Air" you can't drive it. Whereas with just the "Rear Air", you can put it in limp mode and travel at 80kms/hour unlimited to get to a dealer.

We bought it from the same German Hymer dealer, with original Goldschmidt. I went with just the "Rear Air" as we're based in the Canary Islands, and If I have a problem; that's a big issue getting over to Germany.

Very happy with the system. Press a button and up the back goes. Awesome for Ferries, etc. and we have a lot of crappy dirt roads etc. that lead to amazing secluded sites/spots.

Haven't bottomed out since. But a lot of beach access roads are not great, no tarmac and some are just dirt tracks. Have not had one problem accessing them. Whereas before I wouldn't even consider 90% of them. So very happy.

If we were based in mainland Europe I would probably have gone for the "Full Air".

Have a drive of the van beforehand to see if its acceptable, you could then save yourself thousands to put towards your utility bills.
