Hi all thoughts please on wrapping.
Or respray of fiat 2003 hymer bonnet...no pics sorry but paint starting to flake in the middle

Hi.
Only seen it done on Wheeler dealers ( Edd China days ) Looked good, would like to know the price difference first before going ahead. Let us know how you get on for choice. " Transfers " on commercial vehicles take some stick and still look good.

FIRST Check your insurance company - we had our decals altered as well as respraying the front end
They were really concerned as if we'd had it wrapped it would put up our insurance

I resprayed our Ducato's nose and Bonnet using Fiat matched paints - sand out all holes filler into all of them then spray and sand - repeat - repeat and lacquer three coats took a couple of days but looks good

Hi yes few people had commented, similar but that was on their cars, going this weekend to take the van to see what is suggested...don't even want to think about cost  :X3:

Hi ooh never thought about that, will chat with hubby ( he is on a early start)
Appreciate your comments, not something we will be taking on ourselves, but glad you sorted yours:X3:(y)

A friend of mine got told by his insurance company that any wrapping would affect his insurance
edit: this was on his car

Does this include decals ? like say one of those on the rear ..a compass or hills etc ? just asking as i considered putting one on mine.

Remove bonnet.
(Means you don't have to mask the entire vehicle, and it's easy to do the spay inside)
Remove all flaking paint
Respray.

A wrap will always look like a wrap and the flaking paint underneath will show through.
Wrapping only really works on brand new vehicles

My bonnet has done the same on a 2006 MH. Plan to wait until better weather and remove from MH, sand, prime, top coat and lacquer it myself. Totally cost will be less than £50.

I resprayed a bonnet and front end on my drive using Halfords rattle cans. Perfect result if I may say so.
The bonnet and front end are the same colour (same paint code) but the angle of the bonnet makes it look different. Preparation is the key to a good finish.

Thanks all, will be taking van in the morning, will update on possible quotes for re spray
Hubby has checked with insurance, yes need to notify insurer if you change colour on your bonnet, or any part as its classed as a modification.

Evening, after hubby bumping into Old work pal, who is in the trade, agreed on a price to re spray the van bonnet same colour...so good result

Next we are thinking once the work is done, putting a ( bra) over the bonnet to protect whilst driving..
As ever all feedback from you knowledgeable lot, much appreciated

Hi Phill D
Few people commented that they can trap moisture?
Have you had it on a while( on the bonnet.) Have you noticed that?

A BIG NO to fitting a bra , they trap moisture and grit and will ruin your paint rather than protecting it .
Thank you, its always so positive to have feedback, so can decide which way forward (y)

I put it on to cover fiats crap paintwork. It may cause a problem with new paint but my bonnet is not a pretty sight. So it is better than what’s underneath until I can get it sorted.
I have had it off a couple of times and not noticed any issues with additional moisture problems.

The problem stems from the way that Fiat badly painted the bonnet, and will only get worse if not resprayed properly. The top coat and base coat part company in ever increasing areas. Wrapping with vinyl will accelerate the failure as it heats and cools, leaving huge bubbles that won't go back

A proper sand down, rust proofing, primer, top coat and lacquer will cost £500 just for the bonnet. A bra will accelerate the failure too and damage new paint very quickly

Always makes it interesting when your masking a page 3 girl as protective material.

This is also a common problem with the metallic grey paint on the Ducato roof according to the body shop manager. I had to have some paint correction done because after about 4 years the roof started flaking. Not impressed by the paint quality. FIAT ought to do better considering how much they charge for the base vehicle. At the factory they spray non-white vans in batches apparently. If one van isn't painted properly the chances are that the whole batch is the same.

they don't actually spray them in the conventional way. They use an electro static system and water based paint particles

Just had the black area on the top centre of our bonnet repainted.
Must be a common fault on Rapido Motorhomes because I’ve just found this one (picture 8) with the exact same problem. The picture was to big to attach, sorry.

My bonnet on my Autohome peugeot boxer looked bad after 22 years so i had it resprayed cost £250 done locally in ellesmere port exact match and proper job old paint removed but i didnt have any flaking,if your keeping the van its easily worth paying for a professional job if you can afford it at the time.

A/ NO the bra hold road dirt and water on to the paintwork acts as an abrasive

B/ Best way would be to fit over size mud flaps or a brush along the rear of the van

I went for over size mud flaps by converting 2 Nissan X Trail rear Car mats works brilliantly
