I am a Newbie to motorhomes but have caravaned for years
Has anyone any experience of a chipped or re mapped 3 litre 160 bhp engine?
There is plenty of power on the standard engine but I wondered if increasing the torque and power would give better economy if driven carefully? I am getting around 25 mpg on a long motorway run.

since 2007, 25 years tuggin before that.
Yes, you need to be doing a lot of miles to get any saving, about 10% (2.5mpg).

We get about 26mpg @ about 60mph with cruise on as things stand.. But that's almost certainly with a tail wind..
Can't imagine things could improve much but it would be interesting to see.

I'm driving at 4 ton just now and not doing any steady motorway and getting 22.
Average during 2.5k miles in France last year of mixed terrain acheived just under 25mpg.
I will not risk a remap my engine never labours and to me the only realistic way is a lighter right foot or reduce the weight. I know there are many who will disagree :thumb:

Perhaps mine has already been chipped! The 3 litre engine has been a revelation. Van has been rerated to 3850kg and isn't far short of that fully loaded. With cruise control set to 100kph [63mph] we get 30 mpg. Have never got less than 26, even batting into a mistral. Power to spare and loadsa torque.

I get 26 out of mine (from a spreadsheet, not the trip) with about 3.7 tonnes and an overcab. Don't think a remap will improve things and might over strain the clutch

Our Autocruise Augusta (4250Kg) was remapped by WOW at the Stratford show four years ago and improved by about 3mpg. Normally get 29mpg even with the toad behind.

I get 25/27 depending on conditions......why bother to change it .Lovely engine as it is ...especially with the brilliant auto box.
