Hi
I’m considering changing my van for a Rapido 9048 df on the heavier chassis, I would like to know if there is anything I should be looking out for & is access to the engine a problem.
It’s a 2012
Access on a A Class is a problem. It’s alright for normal servicing, ie oil, water etc but anything major like heaven forbid the turbo would probably mean engine out or perhaps remove the windscreen and top of dash. I had a heater plug replaced and although it was accessible was still £330.
Rapido is a good manufacturer, you won’t be disappointed.
Access on any a class has it's limits ...mine is like a letter box even checking the oil or topping up water is a challenge
But then the view of the road and the bright spacious cab makes up for that.
There are downsides of course , it's a goldfish bowl everyone looks in and if you wanted to do discrete parking a coachbuilt would be better In my opinion.
But there is a rapido parked beside me tonight and looks a nice van
We nearly bought a 9048df, would have been happy either way but chose the B544 due to the deal offered. We've had work done on the throttle body and egr, as well as servicing. The access never appears to be a problem to the mechanics, plus the bonnet can be removed to improve it if necessary.
The benefits of insulation, space and view out-way the problems that may occur for under bonnet issues for us.
When working on the engine, removing the front crossmember makes life a little easier.
And wear a cap, or have plasters ready
And check the heating on gas and electric as the boiler is a bugger to get to if the elements are naff. (And I mean get it red hot)
Other than that, enjoy
