Hi,

Spent today getting some bits and bobs sorted out on the above van, Fiat Ducato base chassis and my question is does anyone have a dash handbrake warning light on a series 8 motorhome? We have an 881F. I.e. does a light come on the dash when the hand brake is engaged?

The only reason I ask is that we don't and before going back to the dealer thought it would be worthwhile getting a view. The capability exists it doesn't appear to have been set up during manufacture.

Thanks in advance

That's a base vehicle thing, not a converter thing so the make and model of the motorhome doesn't matter.

All Ducatos I've ever seen have a light and a warning beep so if neither is working on yours it suggests something isn't quite right.

Yep Fiat confirmed the capability is there but that the converter wiring hadn't enabled it and the switch was damaged! I bet this gets interesting! It was also suggested but only suggested, it could be an MOT fail!

I'll keep you posted but I suspect this may take some time!

When we picked up our van (secondhand) the handbrake light didn't work, one of the many items missed by the dealer  the switch on the handbrake lever just needed a little adjustment, you could take a look at that first ?

Fiat seemed to imply that the microswitch was damaged and had been done so by the converter. This will be fun!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I have this exact same issue, no handbrake light (it lights during startup so I know the dash is ok).

Anyone know what to look for re switch position / location perhaps?

Sorry I left it to Fiat but I suspect it is a simple fix.

As stated in another post you should also get a buzzer sound as well. I got it resolved by Fiat with my dealer picking up the tab.

The switch is under the handbrake ratchet and if you remove the seat base trim it is clear to see.
Refitting the trim panel badly can cause the switch to be pushed back and stop the dash light and warning operating

Update (y)

Removed side cover to reveal switch:

Multimeter connected, no amount of pressing by hand would make the switch work.

Which is weird, as it's a single wire which gets pulled to ground:

Removed the switch to find out why - look carefully:

See this piece of plastic that holds the lower piece of metal in place?
IMG_9420.JPG

There are two little plastic tabs protruding over the top, so when the switch comes up on its spring, these plastic tabs prevent it making contact!

Chop wonky plastic tabs off with a craft knife:

Refit and test:

Hurrah!

I now have a working handbrake light on the dash.

So much for PDI eh?

Thanks for the pointers everyone (y)
