After a long drive yesterday we were running out of places to stay......... Annecy was full (and scruffy anyway)....... then we drove to La Balme de Sillingy which turned out to be overrun with ‘travellers’ so we continued driving for a little while as the light was falling.......... then came across this lovely picnic site just off the road......

Spent a lovely quiet night and free! ) I was gonna spend €7 on the other Aire!). The car behind us only drove on this morning as I took the piccie and the white van stopped last night ..........

As I have said before, if this is FLT stuff count me in (y)

We often find random unplanned stops are most satisfying. Tonight we found a free aire here at Val Joly located at a beautiful lake resort on the French/Belgium border.
Earlier on our meanderings in the small harbour in Bogliaco, or San Ramano in Garfagnana both in Northern italy or another favorite was in the ski resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and more.
They are often empty and afford a good nights rest to anyone weary of being packed like sardines between the Dutch and the French vans on more popular aires.

I'm pretty sure that our last random stopover was a dogging site.

The aire that we originally planned on was full so we went with plan b which was a car park by a lake a bit further on. It was empty when we got there and we tucked ourselves away in the bottom corner. Everynow and then during the night a car would pull up, keep engine running and then drive off after a couple of minutes.

I've parked up on a few dogging sites I think

But hey you don't get free sex shows with the camping and caravan club and its better audience participation than haven offers :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Co-ordinates of the suspected dogging sites please.

And that, to my mind, is how it should be. And long may it continue.

IMO if you turn up late and go early nobody really minds. Its these fools that start camping that are the problem, or people who park in peoples views.
Jogged my memory. Yesterday , going to Calabardina from Águilas & just before you get to it there is a small cove by the road to the right specifically for launching your boat . & where has the knobhead parked ?
sideways on to the sea, 2m from it & right across the launch point.

"I'm alright, Jack" comes to mind. But yet another nail in the coffin, maybe.

(Must remember these for Maria's English lesson!)

We are back in France after 2 solid months of parking away from it all. We found some spectacular places and caused no problems for anybody. I love it. I simply cannot understand people staying on sites.

I need to be like you, I just can't get my head round parking up and thinking "it's safe here"!! Don't get me wrong I can handle myself, but I'd be constantly thinking someone is gonna bang on the door, or do summat daft???

That's watching too many movies.

If your parked up blinds closed etc no one outside knows who or what is inside either.

I can honestly say in 15 years of wildcamping constantly I've never had any problems other than the odd boyracer doing donuts or playing loud music and one episode of a strange guy asking to borrow my toilet in banff

Otherwise no issues whatsoever and I'm alone

Of course you are absolutely right....................but like @WESTY66 we struggle to relax and sleep when wildcamping...............................are you sure there aren't vampires or zombies out there in the dark.

I have no problem with wild 'parking'', I've done it myself... but sometimes it's nice to find a campsite with a pool perhaps a bar and restaurant that doesn't cost the earth isn't to big (obviously not in England) and just chill out for a couple of days..

We ve also 'wildcamped' (considerately) for years. The occasion that sticks in my mind, we were on the former railway line above Llyn Celyn and you do get the occasional boy racer over the pass. at about 1 am two of them stopped by us and there was a lot of chatter going on and after a bit - a knock on the door - Ooh Err! I cautiously opened the window a little and there was a lad there who apologised for disturbing us but his car had broken down and he was worried about leaving it there, would we mind keeping an eye/ear on it.
