I have just had a Pioneer radio/sat nav fitted into a new Fiat Ducato based Weinberg motorhome. It is not possible to switch the radio on without having the ignition turned on. The dealer who installed it tells me this is normal but in a motorhome particularly it seems unusual. Does anyone else have any experience of this ?

Hello and welcome to Fun and yes it’s normal to save you leaving it on and flattening the battery.

Lots of motorhomes have a switch fitted to the dash to allow you to flip the power source for the radio. Instead of coming from an ignition live feed, it can be switched to use your leisure battery as required. You have to be careful you don't leave it on though!

I have this and find it a pain now ::bigsmile: I contantly get out and then hear the radio playing from the leisure batteries lol

When I had my Pioneer radio/sat nav fitted they fitted a small switch near the glovebox to use when I wanted to use the radio without needing to have the ignition turned on or needing the key to be left in.

Typical dealer not got a clue how Motorhomes are used.
I would rewire it to the leisure battery and if its a double din unit put an isolation switch inline. Pioneer double din units are famous for drawing several amps when in standby.

Mines the same. Some stereos can be programmed to switch off after an hour automatically. Not mine though. :crying:

Hi and welcome to FUN. (y) Mine stays on with the ignition switch off and has very nearly flattened my battery so I’ve learnt the hard way to check when I switch of my ignition.
